I purchased some vintage muskie tackle and other fishing gear at a rummage sale this week. I would like to identify the maker of one of the rods. Most of the oval label is worn off leaving only part of a red stripe around the edge of the label which reads "GENUINE ??????????" in white letters at the top of the label, and "??????? FALLS, W??????????" on the bottom. If you can give me an idea of the manufacturer please reply. Thanks!

P.S. There are also some baits that I can't identify. I will post pictures of them when I have some time away from the honey-do list.

Wow, an old St. Croix 5500 I'd bet. Had one of those in the 70's bought at a hardware store in Wausau after a trip to "Bills House Of Guns". Ahhh, the memories. Thanks Dad.

At one time there was two rod manufacterers in Park Falls, Flambeau and St. Croix. If you can post a pic I'll give you more info.

Wow..."Bill's House of Guns." Now THERE is a name I haven't heard in a long time. I have a couple of older St. Croix rods we bought from there as well, as I recall. Man, that was in the 70s! I remember getting a 6'6" St. Croix rod in the early 80s, because I wanted a longer rod for casting--and everyone called me a freak, because I didn't want the 5'6" pool cue model any more.

Quite the trip down memory lane...

I spent alot of time walking the aisles in Bills House of Guns. Every time I drive past that building I think about the store that used to be there.

Actually, I have a Model 700 30-06 that my dad bought for me when I was about 18, purchased from that store as I recall. I haven't fired it in years, as I no longer hunt. But I keep it for sentimental purposes, as he died 17 years ago. At times I have thought about selling it, but then decided against it. I figured that the world has enough guns, so the two or three that I still have won't really make much difference...

But we used to live about two miles down the road from that place, about the time it closed. And with a birthday now looming on the horizon, man do I feel old.

Thanks Flambeauski! Here's some pics of the rod (I hope this works).

Bill's House of Guns! That was a long long time ago. My brother had a cottage up in Lincoln County. I had to stop at Bill's every time I went up there. I still have a "Rock Chucker" and a MEC that I purchased there.

Wow! I knew I could count on you guys! Thanks!

One thing I forgot to mention, the rod is 6 1/2 feet long. Would that make it a 6503 or am I screwed up in assuming the first two numbers are the length?

I picked up a 5500 off ebay last week, looks almost same except for thread colors. It's six foot long.

Wow--I have one virtually identical, as I recall. I'll have to go dig around in the garage and look, but mine was 6'6", purchased in about 1981, and looks just like that! Hey...maybe my wife sold mine! This rummage sale wasn't in Green Bay by chance, was it??

TB

EDIT: Disaster averted! Mine is still there, and actually it's only 6', a model 8810. But man, I didn't realize I had so many St. Croix rods & reels that I never use anymore. There must be eight or nine of them out there! I haven't thrown a cast for muskies in years.

(Sheesh! Anyone need any St. Croix rods or Abu Garcia reels? I've certainly got more than I need...)

There is a city wide rummage sale in New London this weekend. I was lucky and found out about the musky tackle going on sale before the rummage sale was even open.

If you were serious about selling some rod & reel combos, send me a list. I'm looking for at least one more.
