| My friend is a lefty, and is looking for a good reel to handle the cowgirls. I am right handed and use the older 7000's w/4. 1 -1 gear ratio and love them.
He would like to stay away from the big frame of a 7000.
Anyone have a problem finding a left handed reel with a lower gear ratio?

| I cant get the 7000 lefty either, i think they might have made some years back?? Leftys suck cause we have alot less to choose from, I went to all the new records with the stock power handle, very impressed and very, very troublefree. I will try that Okuma this season too! Everyone is saying that is a great buy also!

Location: Yahara River Chain | Well this is confusing. The guys I know are left handed. Steve Worrall, Jim Saric, Steve Herbeck, Joe Bucher, and many others have the reels with the cranks on the right side and don't switch hands when they cast. Why the heck, if you are left handed, are you looking for a reel with a crank on the left side????????????? |

Location: north central wisconsin | Nut, I am left handed as well. In my opinion(and I probably speak for the others you mentioned), reels with the handle on the right side, are made for left handed people. More comfortable to work the rod with my dominant hand. Heck, I can crank with any old hand. Also nice, not to have to switch when casting. If I remember correctly, Handyman is right handed, and he and his family reel with the left/cast and work lures with the right. In my opinion, the Musky reel sector is really geared for left handed people. Hopefully they start making more of the 'right' reels for you guys. My wife is in the process of switching over, and is having the same trouble in finding the reel she desires in a 'righty'(handle on the left). |

| I'm right handed and use lefties too. It started because I began fishing with a borrowed spinning reel with the handle on the left and never realized they could be reversed. It then made sense to be consistant when I started up w/bait casters.
I find the most useful advantage is not changing in mid-cast or after the bait lands, particularly when I'm tossing a bait to a shallow spot or right up to shore where I want to begin cranking immediately. I can begin moving the bait just before it hits. It also helps that your strongest arm is tossing. That's how we learned to toss balls when growing up, right? So our accuracy will be best tossing with that arm.
If your friend has never used a bait casting reel and is considering his/her first purchase, I'd recommend going that route. One good friend of mine is too acclimated in his cross-handed habits to change, but recognizes the advantage and is starting his right handed son out with left cranking reels.
The opposite, of course, is so with left handed anglers. |

| i agree,im right handed but all i use is left handed baitcasters.for some aparent reason its more difficult for me to make downward twitches with a right handed reel than it is with a left handed reel and like the guest said i too dont like to change hands when i cast out i fish mostly shallow areas in a lake so i need to start my retrieve right away.i know some of you guys are going to say why dont you just learn to cast out with your left hand but why go through the trouble when both right hand and left hand reels cost the same... |

| Okuma lefty for me with the power handle.
I am right handed and reel left on every reel I own. It is a comfort factor to me having done it for the last 30 years. I do not switch over when I cast either.
I can reel right handed but it feels like a hand with all thumbs.

During a bomb-cast, cross-handed manuever last season my forearm hit the reel and stopped the gears mid-flight, causing me to tear apart the plastic teeth of my idle gear inside my Luna! Bummer!
