Joe Bucher came down to Green Bay to meet with Jeff Tilkens in order to test out and approve the final versions of the "Bigfoot" lures coming out this year. i know Joe's the right kind of guy because when i saw him coming out of Lambeau Field, he approved of us "starting her early" by taking our 6 month old on her first pilgrimage. anyway, Tilky rescued me and Bytor from the cold on Friday, bought us a beer or two, and showed off the new line of baits. he reports that everything met Joe's standards and the baits will be available in January '08, just in time for the winter muskie shows. here they are: Bigfoot Depthraider - msrp $19.99 12" long, 7/0 widegap hooks all standard d-raider colors, plus some new... Bigfoot Shallowraider - msrp $19.99 12" long, widegap hooks all standard s-raider colors, plus some new... Bigfoot Buchertail - msrp $15.99 - $16.99 #10 fluted blades 6 colors including pearl/chart, cisco/silver, rainbow/silver, "darth vader"... aside from your favorite local or online muskie-specific stores, they'll all also be widely available at retailers such as Gander Moutain, Bass Pro Shops, and Cabela's. i was personally impressed by the quality, detail, and especially the reasonable pricing these baits are listed for sale. at least a few will find there way into my tacklebox for next year. i also might have heard (and seen? and pocketed?) something about new, even stronger split rings coming out by Bucher this year...i'm not saying, i'm just saying... They do look skinny. My first thought was that they did that to keep the cost of developing the new bait down by using the profle of the smaller models. My second thought was that they are probably still great bait and might hook/hold better than some of the other big baits out there...

Posts: 1243 Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | I haven't seen these in person yet, so I'm making assumptions. But I don't think they're as skinny as they might appear to be from the pictures. Keep in mind what Lambeau said about the hooks. They're 7/0s. The only picture that appears to show that off well is the second one down. Aaron

the circumference of the straight bigfoot d-raiders is much larger than that of a normal d-raider, but not huge. my impression was that this is a bait with a big profile that will still fit in a fish's mouth and "slide" through the bite to help with hookset. i wish i'd taken a pic with a regular d-raider for perspective, it'd show the size difference better. consider the fact that the lures are 12" long from tip to tip. the shallow raiders appear more "skinny" as they're only slightly thicker than the standard s-raider. they're size difference is in the length and the height instead. of course, the bottom line isn't how they look in your hand, but how they look and run in the water...i'm betting the pool demo at the winter shows will draw a crowd.

Posts: 1270 | I saw these a couple months ago and while they are not a wide, shad rap style, body I would not call them skinny. If my memory serves me correctly I would say they are proportioned about the same as the normal Depth Raiders.

Posts: 35 | Thanks for your interest with the big foot lures. What we wanted was a 12 inch bait, so we put the regular DR which is 9 inches tip to tip on a cad. from there the Bigfoot was made up 30% larger than the regular Dr. The shallow raider was done the same way but because of the skinny profile on the regular shallow raider we made the bait thicker in the middle. The diameter of the bigfoot dr is 4.5", the big foot shallow raider is 4" and the regular Dr is around 3.5". The baits have a real nice wobble to them. The BFDR really digs down deep, I had it hiting bottom of the Fox River 24" deep with about 60 to 70 feet of line out, it will go deeper with more line. The shallow raider gets down around 10 feet with 60 to 70 feet of line out. This bait worked great trolling the shallow banks & flats of the river & bay this year. Hope this helps.

Posts: 80 Location: Clintonville, Wi | Tilky let us try a prototype this fall. The action on these are second to none they definatly have a unique wobble. The only problem is we ran it for 10 minutes before we got snagged and lost it ---------- sorry matey

Posts: 35 | no count down versions yet, we will have the straight model bfdr & bfsr available in January. The jointed version will be out in fall. The pictures do not do the lures justice. Once you see them you'll understand. They look like giants compared to the regular lures we have. The action on these lures are great and with the 7/0 hooks the loss ratio on muskies should be down. We are very excited on this new product. MerryChristmas Maties.
