Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Not much of aloon but if its trolling at 4mph I am sure a muskie won't know the difference. LOL Took my pike template and used it for this. Wish I had some decoy skills. I think a diving duck or loon might produce. Anyone else have soem good duck/loon/other painted lures they have done? Any luck with them? Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Medford Fisher-I know! Funny thing is, I have yet to see one picture of a loon in a muskie or pike belly? Lots of other ducks, small geese, etc but no loon pics. Anyone have any pics?

Posts: 1243 Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | Baby Loon is one of the best selling colors for top water baits these days. Funny that your Grunt is the first sub surface lure I've ever seen painted that color. Looks great! Aaron

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | I have the Bucher topwater double tail in loon. Really like it. Puts out a lot of water and looks great. I always wonder if any fish can even see the color on those though? LOL Guess it does not matter, they work!!!!

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Thanks Aaron. Maybe I can make a few more of these for you if you like them for your site. I only made 4 and my "production" facility is now shut down for winter. I stock pilled about 300 Grunts but the garage gets a little cold to paint and epoxy in the winter time. Edited by Grunt Lures 10/10/2007 7:03 AM

Posts: 162 Location: Bemidji, MN | I think the loon pattern sells due to the psychology of selling baits=sell to the fisherman, not the fish! All of us musky fisherpeople are a bit deranged, and love to think about a little loon getting munched on! Plus its black, and black works.

Posts: 284 | Never seen one in a belly but I did see one get snatched off the top of the water. Was up on Eagle a couple of years ago when this loon was going nuts on the surface. It was frantically flapping its wings trying to take off but couldn't a few moments later it was gone.

Posts: 785 | Nice looking paint job. I've always figured loons carry there babies on there back becouse they typically swim where musky and pike prowl. I don't know how many adult loons actually get eaten but black and white contrast should still produce.

Posts: 223 Location: Victoria,MN | ghitierman - 10/11/2007 11:39 AM We witnessed this on Tonka last sunday, Three loons were feeding on panfish that were piled into a shallow shelf when one of the loons went wacko and tried to fly off, after a few seconds it managed to free itself and struggled to fly about 50 yards and then started swimming in circles and diving wildly. Crazy stuff.Never seen one in a belly but I did see one get snatched off the top of the water. Was up on Eagle a couple of years ago when this loon was going nuts on the surface. It was frantically flapping its wings trying to take off but couldn't a few moments later it was gone.

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | So much for that one! It sold for $13 on eBay. LOL! I had a guy email me last week who had just started trolling his Grunt about 40 foot back from his boat. The lure was still only about a foot down and a muskie T-boned it and came all the way out of the water with the Grunt in its mouth. If I only had a video of that! I am sure that woudl help my $13 goto $33 in no time! Videos like that sell lures like hot cakes!!!!

Posts: 27 | I love the loon color. I have painted a few baits similar to that. The bait I painted to look like a loon I could not find the pic of. But I found this pic of one of the crankbaits I make with a paint job I call Black Pike. This is an older pic back when I used to paint without an airbrush.
