Ok now I'm ticked....I got a new 38c HD, before I put it on I had a 332c, which I loaded all my icons and waypoints to an MMC card, named the file and so I was just going to load those icons/waypoints to the new 38hd...well when I go to put that MMC card in the unit, it doesn't even recognize the card?? so now I think I have a bad card, well when I take the same card to the front 3600i GPS it recognizes the card, and the file but when I tried to load the file to that unit it won't do it and shuts itself off then back on quick after I try to load....anyone have a clue what is going on ? Also, I loaded some waypoints / icons I put on the 38c HD the other nite to a seperate MMC Card, when I try to load that file/card to the 3600i on my console it does the same thing...it shuts off/then back on quick...is the software on the 38cHD different and I need an update or something from Lowrance for the 3600i??? Anyone have a clue...?

Location: Contrarian Island | Ok I solved one problem...my 3600i gps just needed the newest update...it was now able to read both of my MMC cards, one card had info from my 332c and one card had info from my 38 HD...but the 38HD is still NOT reading or even recognizing the card that has info from my 332c....I have the latest version of the software on my 38HD but for some reason it won't read or recognize the card when I put it in...any ideas? not a major deal as I can just take my 3600i gps and run it next to the 38HD and put down the same icons in the same places as the chip has...one benefit of running 2 Lowrance units side by side i guess...still, doesn't make sense to me why the 3600 i gps can read and load the info off the card from the 332 but the 38HD won't even recognize that card???????

Posts: 2378 | Brad - What is your unit doing? I think I may be having the same problem with my iFinder. I am trying to get my waypoints off there to put on my 3500c. Whenever I put the MMC in the iFinder it just sits there. If I out the card in after it is already powered up it locks up. It looks like it is trying to read the card, but it never gets anywhere.

yup, the same thing is going on with that one card in the 38hd...not sure if it was the way the 332c saved it or what...i can read and load the card on to my 3600i so what I did (with the engineer Painters idea) is to load the icons/waypoints off that card to my 3600i, then i took a blank/new card and saved all the stuff to that card then put that new card in the 38c and it worked...the card is fine as i put it in my camera and it works in there too ....but for some reason it won't read on my 38c...so not a big deal now as i will just use that card for my camera but i think with your units you might want to see if there are updates for them on the Lowrance site... I had to put the update on my 3600c so i could load the stuff off the card from the 332c to it....check for updates first....

Location: 31 | You guys should just call their help hot line before you get any more frustrated, hopefully it's something simple? A few years ago I drove about 10 hours or so into Canada and decided it was time to start loading the icons onto the X-19 and nothing... it wouldn't read the MMC card. Every attempt just got me more and more concerned... bad card... unit on the fritz? Anyway, I called the Lowrance help hot line and a guy walked me threw resetting the X-19 by entering a series of the command buttons. Bang, problem solved... hope you figure it out... I know how frustrating it can be first hand. Thought... Load the data onto your computer and then onto the properly formatted MMC card that came with the unit. Good luck! I'd troll it

Good idea Jerry, but I think I'm ok now....at least I hope...as I don't have the 332c on the console anymore and now have a 38hd for gps and 3600i on the bow and those 2 units seem to be sharing cards/info right now...must have been something with the way that 332c saved the info to the card... thanks for the info though

Posts: 2378 | So where can I guy an actual MMC card? All I can find is SD, and I think that may be my problem.

Location: Contrarian Island | you can use sd or mmc ...they are the same thing....circuit city has some 256mb on sale for like 8-9 bucks...best buy etc...any of them will carry cards from 256 to 4gb...the files on the lowrance units are small...so a 256 mb card is plenty big...

The digital formats are actually a little different so I thought that may be the issue. I have a 2GB card. Maybe it is too big for the iFinder? I know alot of devices have maximums as to what they are compatible with. (Update : it appears this may be my issue. Checked out the manual, and they only tested SD cards up to 512MB. Picking up a smaller card after work and trying that. I bet it solves it) Stupid thing is making me very angry!! Edited by BALDY 7/24/2007 2:20 PM

Location: 31 | I have and use the SD in both Sandisk and Kodak... The Sandisk are suppose to be better or faster or something, but I can't tell any difference. I picked up a bunch of the 32MB Kodak real cheap on Ebay about a year ago... FYI, I had to reformat them on the computer before they would work in the GPS. I'm certainly no expert... but I've figured out the MMC stands for Multi Media Card the SD stands for Secure Digital, like BN said they both will work. I do not own a non SD and the only difference between them is the little slide you can lock to secure the data... please, correct me if I'm wrong. If you decide to go to Ebay be sure to check the category "memory cards" and the size you want so your not chasing too many listings. These posts got me so worked up I bid on a lot of 4-64MB Sandisk SD for an average $2.51 each, including the shipping. I just thought I'd thrown this info up here in case someone was shopping and feeling as confused as I was when started with MMC in the GPS Edited by Jerry Newman 7/25/2007 7:56 AM

Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Baldy you might be right about that card size. I've seen this in audio gear too. This is kind of a pain but using a PC you could try to segment the card into 2 or more logical drives. For example, format them into 4 drives each 500MB partitions. The unit might be able to see the sections and interact with it. This is just a guess but what you describe does happen when the units get older while media storage capacity increases. Jono

FYI: The MMC cards have 7 pins and the SD cards have 9 pins.

Posts: 5874 | All the newer Lowarnce units will read either the MMC or the SD. It's difficult to find MMC on the shelf anymore. SD's should be just fine, but there could be an issue with some units not reading a large card. SD's and MMC's are not the same. As mentioned, the SD has more pins. My old X-15 would not read Lakemaster on SD> I had to send it in, and have them transfer to an MMC. I have two SD's I keep all my info on. When I am done with a trip, I save that data to the card, and call it something like LOTW0707. Or Bago 062807. I usually have several days or a week of info on that file as I use it for prefishing. When I start prefishing, I'll clear my GPS, and load in data from a file I prepared in advance. This will have all hazards, some previous waypoints, and some potential spots I want to start at. When I am done prefishing, I save that data, and load it in to Mapcreate, or my Lakemaster software on my laptop, and create a tourney file. Load that into the GPS, and I am ready for the tourney. Why do I do this? After nearly 15 years of waypoints, there isn't enough memory to store them all. It's an efficient way of planning, and organizing my data. I know where all my data is. And I don't cllutter the screen with unneeded and unuseful icon, waypoints and trails. As I said, I have two cards for data. One is basically my master, and the other is my "working" card. I have a multi card case, and that holds the master, and my Navionics/Lakemaster cards when they are not being used. It holds 8 MMC/SD's. No need to have a bunch of cards for each lake to keep track of. Hope this helps.
