Location: The Yahara Chain | Who is using the telescoping rods? I am thinking of getting one. I like the thought of being able to store an 8'6" rod in my storage unit, but the telescoping feature scares me. Anybody ever have any problems with it?

Posts: 299 Location: Ontario, California | I haven't used the Tica's but I developed (2) 8'6" telescopic versions for Okuma that I have been fishing for the last few months. I passed the samples to a friend that went tuna fishing with them and he had Yellowfin up to 50 pounds. Didn't mean to turn this into a plug for Okuma but my point is that the connections are solid enough to handle tuna.... they are solid enough for Muskies. The Tica's have been out for a couple years and I haven't heard of any problems with them. You should be good to go.

Posts: 613 Location: big cove tannery pa | I have 2 telescopic tica rods i use, a 7'6"& a 8', both are XH. The biggest muskie i have caught was on my 7'6"this morning and was 43" and weighed a little over 24lbs, i didnt have no problems at all with it. The rods are very stiff and you can get very solid hook sets. I recomend them too anyone. They are really nice, fit very easily in rod lockers.

Posts: 56 | The lightest, most feature packed, and reliable rod that I have used at any price. The telescoping feature makes your boat bigger! In all seriousness, I have had no problems with them. Many big fish have come to the boat on the end of them. Granted, I admit I do promote for them. But...if I had to do it all over again, I would buy them without even thinking twice. Do yourself a favor, go to Dorns, Thornes, or Rollies, or wherever and hold the Tica 8' 6" in one hand for $115 and the St. Croix Legend Tournament 8' 6" for $340...you tell me which is the better feeling rod. It is a no brainer. Might as well buy three of the Ticas. Also, Tica is currently working on an XXHeavy 8' 6" for some of the newer "big baits" that are becoming so popular. Yes, they are made overseas...not much that isn't these days. Hope this helps. Lee Tauchen

That little plastic thing is just for shipping to keep the rod from rattling. It is meant to be taken off when you purchased the rod.

Posts: 8 | For any of you who have used these rods, what is the rear grip length of the 8' Tica rods? I couldn't find the info on their wedsite. Thanks

Rod manufacturers are missing the boat by not using telescopic blanks. People are going to longer rods and most rod lockers top out at 8'. I've been using telescopic rods for bass for years and love them. There is very minimal loss of power or sensitivity. As far as the Ticas, I bought a couple for the same reasons people have been stating - a longer rod that would fit in my 8' lockers. Two thoughts: 1) The rods are very heavy. 2) Customer service was terrible in my case. I've broken many, many, many rods from several manufacturers before and have never had a problem. New rod plus a minimal shipping charge or new rod at no charge. No questions asked. Every single time. I broke a Tica on the first hookset the day after I purchased it. Obviously a defective rod. I returned it with the warranty card and customer "service" was very accusatory and explained to me how the rod was hit into something to make it shatter. Nevermind that the rod shattered into three pieces on the very first hookset. Despite much explaining on my part, the best they could do was offer a rod at a promotional rate (not that great of one either) despite the one year replacement warranty. Not acceptable in my mind. I'll buy other rods from now on. Also the company should really have someone review their print ads because "Specially designed for musky fish" doesn't really make sense.
