Location: Northern Wisconsin | what has been your best way to rig suckers on quick strike rigs. i have heard many ways (rubber band through nostral, RB through lip, jig through lip or snap through lip and many more) and am looking for opinions, which has best hooking %, which keeps sucker alive longer, etc? never fished suckers on QS so looking for help/opinions, thanks

Posts: 194 | I use the Rubber band through the schnozz method. I started doing it this way this fall and I'm 2 for 2. I have the hardest time keeping the ones that don't get chewed on alive. The ones one my rigs are nice and lively.

Rigging with a rubber band is the best method that I have used. Going thru the nostrals does not seem to bother them. Don't stick the baiting needle any deeper than you have to. The rubber band method secures the sucker to the rig strong enough to assure the bait will not come off accidently but it still allows for a good hookset. I also find that the suckers swim more naturally with the rubber band on their forehead vs. hooked through the lips. The suckers also seem to swim deeper without as much wieght. There is a reason guys like the Shumways, Sennett, Maina, and Herbeck all use the rubber band method. It is a pain at first but it is worth the effort. Good Luck, Duane bulletprooftackle.com

Posts: 27 Location: Central, IA | Got one on the rubber band nostril rig this past weekend, just a small 36 but at least we succeeded in our first time dragging meat! Attachments ---------------- musky1.jpg (58KB - 153 downloads)

Posts: 27 Location: Central, IA | Yep, same rig. Except we had the spinner blade on the leader itself (thanks to sledge51 for making the rigs) but rather than the trailer blade hooked in the tail like it showed in the video... Thanks again for the link! Edited by .fish. 10/23/2006 10:59 AM

Posts: 3240 Location: Racine, Wi | The other thing that you can use up in the yap of the sucker is a small treble, or single hook. Muuuuuch easier to rig up when it's cold, and you don't have to remember where those stupid rubber band needles went. LOL
