Am I wrong or is there less excitement about new baits this year? I remember the rush for Weagles, Uptown Dogs, Super Freak, Seducer...and the introduction of the Hellhound, Bitten Tackle baits (Warlock, etc.), the Optimum AC Minnow....The Chicago Show is in less than two weeks!!! What baits are you excited about???

I've noticed the same thing, too. I'm mostly looking for custom colors of old baits. I know MI is coming out with a 6" Shallow Invader I am itching to get my paws on. Would also like to check out the Cow and Showgirls.

if your looking for custom colored stuff, make sure you check out some of the custom colored baits mike hulbert is gonna have at his booth, i got a sneak peak of the custom squirkos hes gonna have...... hot!! hot!! hot!!.... also i hear we'll have some "swoosh swoosh" surface baits on hand as well as some "TY"pe of other clicky clicky baits, in custom colors. im also interested in seeing what new stuff musky innovations has coming out! also its not new but they havnt been around that long, check out the ducktail weed warriors at the ducktail lures booth. the weed warrior is a very unique jerk bait that can be ripped through the heaviest weed cover!! its a must have if you fish alot of weedy waters that tend to get choked out fast.

I'm just looking forward to the La Crosse and New London shows. Getting some face time with new customers, as well as previous ones, and talking with other bait makers. I have a boatload of fun doing shows, talking with kids that are new to it while they raid my candy dish and giving them bucktails. If you only go to big shows, you are missing out on a great group of folks, as well as some great baits by some awesome "little guys".

I think alot of it has to do with nobody seeing or knowing what these baits look like. The weagle for instance, I had one the year before the big hype so it had some great fish catching hype that the new baits we have not seen don't have yet but I am sure they are great fish catchers.

I love going to a couple of shows each year. I usually go to Milwaukee and sometimes New London. My favorite part of going is
to pick the brain of people. The baits are great and all but I don't usually spend more than a $100 bucks. Usually just a specific bait or two I want to try. It is a great chance to have a lot of resort owners, guides, and good fishermen all in one place. I spend most of the night firing questions and listening closely.

Example: Last year at a show I was talking to Roger Sabota. I asked him a question about a lake I had been hearing some grumblings about. He just smiled and stated, "Yeah, lots of potential there." He didn't say anything else. First time on it this summer it took about 30 minutes to see why. So sometimes its not what people say but rather what they don't. Ha, Ha!

Subject: Crane Trolling Baits

Kurts Island Sport Shop will have some of the new Crane Trolling baits that I have custom painted for them. For anyone who has not seen them they are a wire through the lip bait similar to a Dana , or Hooker bait. 5", 6", and 8" baits . They seem wo be very well made baits. Not sure if they are Balsa, Cedar or may be palstic . Can't tell really. Mark Smith

Mark.. I purchased one of you're crane customs from Kurt last year and it is awesome. It is the larger jointed deep bodied crank bait in the smallmouth pattern and when it is cranked slow it runs on the surface and knocks like a hawgwobbler. It put some nice fish in the boat last season . Doug

Doug,
Thanks for the compliment on the baits. Kurt will have the following patterns for anyone interested. Carp, Sucker, Bluegill, and Cisco in the trolling baits. He has several other patterns in the regular Crane baits. 200.300. and 600 series. thanks.
