With the spring DNR hearings right around the corner(monday night), I thought I'd just post a reminder for those that may have forgotten. We could really use your help on Monday night in our quest for the higher size limit on the wisconsin river from the Point flowage down through and including Castle Rock flowage.
Having the resolution pass locally in 02(the only counties that voted), really helped us look forward to this years statewide vote. We need everyones support that night, to ensure an improving musky fishery for years to come.
Here is the copy of the resolution that passed two years ago. We really need support again in not only the local 4 counties (Portage, Wood, Adams, and Juneau), but also the whole state, to make this happen.

Thanks.

RESOLUTION

The Wisconsin River from the Stevens Point Flowage (below Dubay dam) through Castle Rock flowage (including Petenwell) has proven to be a viable musky fishery, which is, sustained almost 100% through stocking. With its’ vast rough fish forage base, there is definitely potential to produce large fish. However, due to harvest of fish in the 34”-43” range, and being dependant totally on stocking, we believe this system is not producing the size and numbers of fish that it is capable of.

We are confident that a higher size limit for muskies would improve the fishing on this stretch of river, as it has done for many other lakes in northern WI, MN, and Canada. We have the chance to improve the fishing on the river for everyone, and local anglers young and old that we’ve surveyed, have been very excited about the prospect of a better local musky fishery. This in turn, would also be positive for local business. The muskies in the named stretch have already shown an affinity for the many carp that swim its’ waters, and it is proven that spawning success of all game fish are improved when carp populations are held in check. We have discussed this idea with our local fishery biologist/manager Scott Ironside. Mr. Ironside agreed with the biological soundness of this proposal and supports it wholeheartedly.

At present, the size limit is 34” on the WI river in the mentioned stretch. Therefore we are proposing to increase the size limit for muskies from the Dubay dam south through and including Castle Rock Flowage to 45”.

The following area businesses, groups also support this proposal: University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Fisheries Society,Consolidated Musky Club, River Run Tackle, 12 Apostles Musky Club, Hellraiser Tackle, Petenwell Musky Challenge, Baitmaker Tackle, Freemans Bait and Tackle, Extreme Musky Guide Service, Jerry’s Bait and Tackle, Petenwell Guide Service, Rapids Bait and Tackle, Forcier's Guide Service LLC

BE IT RESOLVED, the conservation Congress at its’ annual meeting held in __________ County on April 8, 2002, recommends that the Department of Natural Resources take action to correct this situation by introducing to the state legislature rule changes allowing a 45 inch minimum size limit on the Wisconsin River from Stevens Point Flowage through Castle Rock Flowage(Portage, Wood, Adams, Juneau Counties, WI.
Submitted By:_Jason D. I want to know if there is a hearing in kenosha county. I will go up and vote. I think more illinois people would vote on issues if their vote counted as they should in all counites. More musky fisherman voting is a good thing.

Lambeau and others, thanks for your help! I've been trying to get ahold of Laura Morrison on the other board to see her list of people from each county who helped a couple years ago. If anyone has this list, please advise. Thanks,Jason

Gotcha covered in Milwaukee, Jason. I'll look up the address, and get there.

Was on Petenwell today. Lotsa little eyes, and 2 slot fish. Windy and cold, but I had fun. Obviously, you weren't out there, as your post was at noonish! hehehe

Shep, nope, no pete for me yesterday, or today for that matter. I hit it on the weekdays though. I have been spending more time steelhead fishing now that the river is reluctant to give up the nice eyes like it used to. Keep in touch, maybe see ya out there, and thanks for the support.
