Posts: 3926 | Ranger (me) has the option of hunting or fishing all of the first few days of next week. Here is the situation.... *Local waters should be very hot with the new consistent lower temps, and the lower temps are not so low as to freeze local Lakes X and Y. (Ranger moved 5 fish on X yesterday.) *Ranger would much rather release a live 25 pound muskie than kill a 10 point buck. *Ranger already plans to hunt the blackpowder season, a much more enjoyable time to be in the woods (snow on ground, the 10,000 drunken ya-hoo hunters have all gone home from 1,000 local deer camps). Please help Ranger make up his currently feeble mind...

Posts: 7119 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Slamr says that Ranger should fish with the gun in the boat. Down south we call it "cast and blast", but Slamr thinks it would make for a great picture to have a 10pt. buck "sleeping" in the boat with you holding a 25lb fish in front of its face. Slamr thinks that would be cool.

Posts: 477 Location: Iowa | Ranger should fish. I also hunt the late muzzleloader season, in Iowa. There is plenty of time for shooting bambi after the water is hard. I see no reason to pass up any day fishing for muskies, especially while the crowds are out after the easy deer. Since you musky fish, you must really like a challenge, so wait on the deer untill everyone else has given them a little education.

| Ahh...Ranger just fish it man. No reason to even think about it really. Those lakes know you so well and would be lost without your frequent visit. You tend to them and they tend to you. | |||

Posts: 3926 | Your words of wisdom have illuminated the proper path for me at this time. Thank you for your careful consideration of my dilemma. A-fishing I shall go, starting in about an hour. Today it looks like rain turning to feezing ran and then all snow. Winds 10-20 from the NW. Exceleeeent. I have some 2" non-slip tape to place on the wodden floor of my boat. I'll also take a cup of snow-melter for the ice that forms under my feet when I cast in heavy snow. Two ther-mouses of strong coffee and a handful of cigars will prove all necessary nourishment. Life is good today.
