I am not much of a troller but I do fish GB a few times each year. Specifically what model/size planner board do you use for large size muskie lures? The ones I have don't seem big enough and they are the older ones that are difficult to use.

Thanks and Have a nice day.

We use both big double boards on a mast and inline boards and I have both the Church TX44 and Walleye boards. I prefer the Walleye boards which will pull a 10 inch Believer,Jake, or like sized baits. my favourite is the walleye board and a Hose Fattie

I appreciate the feedback but could you possible be a bite more specific? I googled and found the Church TX 44, but Walley boards took me to several different things so I am not sure of the make and model you are refering to. When I googled Hose Fattie nothing worth repeating came up.

Thanks

x2 church tackle walleye boards are good for vast majority of baits. tx-44 are better if it is rough out but if its too rough any inline will not be great

You may have to scroll down a ways to find the Fattie or Fatty

I would just set your boat up with a mast system and run big boards rather than inlines. There are several advantages to big boards over inlines IMO and I use both. Once the fish hit, they release from the main line and you fight the fish ONLY...not fighting a flailing board and fish both at the same time, being the main and most important advantage. I love running planer boards...it not only allows for multiple lines, but also allows you to cover more water. However, I try to avoid running inlines as much as possible for good reason.

We have both and personally prefer the inlines. Think we have lost fish due to the slack created when the line releases from the big board. The man said he didn't troll much and inlines are less expensive and less hassle to set up. I had 3 50+ fish on inlines last year and the boat had 11 I'm sold

Were usually only running one board each side tho we have run more. When running multiple lines each side I would give it to the big boards. I think when more than 4 lines are out they don't get checked often enough

Always gonna be slack on any board, inlines or big boards...key is good tight clips on the big board set ups and you will lose less fish.

Everyone has their own preferences though and BOTH are good tools which can be utilized in various situations....I'm set up to run both for sure....All I'm saying is that I troll hundreds of hours every season; if I had my choice, it would be big boards.

I'm with Horsehunter. Having used the Off shores, Big Birds, and Church Walleye boards, if I were to choose one setup that you can use with good success right out of the box, the Church are my choice. I love the clips.

Take me to church! If your running 2 boards the walleye boards will do. If you have a 4 board spread the walleye boards on the inside and the tx-44 boards outside. Makes a nice spread. If you use the tx-44 board get a line counter with a double anti reverse, they will blow up a cheap anti reverse system.

ShutUpNFish, I am curious what type of clips you use? I have considered using a mast system but I was always worried about losing fish from slack in the line once the clip releases.

The clips we use for salmon and trout aren't nearly strong enough to hold a hard pulling musky bait, let alone stick hooks in a fish good enough to have time to set the hook before it spits it. Thanks

We use Scotty clips without issue holding big baits I just don't like the slack on release . I have caught fish on them but have also lost more than i have with inlines. Lake St Clair guys use a lot of big boards. For giant Flat Shads 13 inch Believers and 14 inch Jakes probably only option. I usually run those baits on a flat line but know McNair runs them on big boards.

btfish- if you can go with a mast planer board system, then please do it. I don't know how your boat is set up. That would be your best bet. A mast with big boards, use OR 30 releases and they will drive that hook home. Slack line? you might lose 1 if your not paying attention. You can usually hear it pop the release so you can get on the reel pretty quick. Unless you just want to relax and drive around with no concept in mind. The OR 30 releases will hold a perchbait at 5 MPH. That's my opinion. And yep, I know what opinions are like. But it works for me..
