Hi fellow Fishermen!

I got this lovely glider recently but I am not sure what it is. I think it is a Hughes River cause:

The size is exactly the same as other HR's I have in this model, the eyes are the same, the way the hookhangers are attatched on the top of the bait, and how all the lead (alot of lead in several places) is placed in the belly of the bait.

I am in doubt because:

The coating is not as thick as my other HR's, the red chin is red all over although my other HR's have three red stripes and very important, it doesnt say HR on the tail neither does it say a year that it was build in.

So what is it, a HR or not??? Perhaps this is one of the very early models or maybe even a prototype. Maybe it is very special...maybe not...

Hope you guys can help out!

I agree. That is an old HR that somebody had their way with.
They probably had a top coat problem and just stripped it.
Rough it up with 800 grit wet sandpaper, and then just pour a coat of E-Tex over it and you'll have a nice new old lure.

Thanks for your opinion guys!

I took another close look and the thing I noticed is that if it is a repaint it is a strange one. When looking at the bait you really see the vain of the wood. Usually when a lure is a repaint the old paint will stick in the (deeper) vains and the bait will have a smooth(er) surface.

Could it be a old prototype anyway?????? Somehow when holding it, it just feels like an first time painted lure....but then again....esp if Beav says it is a repaint (he MUST know) who am I.....

Well if somebody has another opinion please let it be known

Thanks

Just a guess. I'd have to see it in my hands to be certain.
I think that you should send it to me and let me check it out.
I'll send back to you......really.(Maybe my widow will.)

This is very good info esp if somebody has the same...thanks Uptown. So HR does (did) do a very lite topcoat.

Do you have a picture of yours maybe?

Anyone else?

PS thanks guys...you are really helping me out here!

Did you know that he started out making metal-lipped crankbaits?
I got one in a trade, and a collector gave me 2- '00 Shakers for it!
I have several '00 HR's that all have the regular thick coat.
Looks like you got a real oldie there.

C'mon guys...keep your opinions comming...a picture of your lure that has the same features would be great...that way we (I) really know if Hughes River was making their Hughey's like this when they started with this model.

Thanks!

It's definitely a HR. The cotter pins and the multiple weights along the belly are the dead giveaways. The reason you are seing "vanes" in the wood is because of the wood type HR uses........it's very grainy.

I'll give you ten bucks for it. :D
