Posts: 153 | so I am re carpeting a boat I bought. Scrapping the glue off of the glass flore piece of cake, but on the aluminum dry box lids what a night mare. Any sugestions on how to make it easier ive thought of using air craft stripper or laquer thinner for the aluminum dry box lids and than wash it off with soap and water. But wanted to know if any one has any suggestions.

Posts: 42 | Try a coarse standing disk on an angle grinder. It's a dirty job but somebody's go to do it.

| I tried a few methods with little luck last year.. previous owner had a poorly constructed deck on 14 foot aluminum boat with indoor/outdoor green 'grass' carpeting over OSB... Had glue from the carpet on top 12-14 inches of inside of boat. I ended up using a paint scraper and some type of stripper product, don't remember what... got 'most' of it off, but its still there. Any angle grinder attachment seemed to gouge the soft aluminum and finally had enough. still looks awful, but doesn't affect function. This spring I might try those rubber discs OR Santa bought a dremel this year, so may see if they have some attachment that works... Please post results if you find a method that works for you! | |||

Posts: 163 Location: NoDak | Using a wire brush in either a grinder or drill works for us leaves a nice brushed look you may not even re-carpet it will look so nice just make sure to wear long sleeves. Mask. And safety g's Edited by samuwenn 4/16/2014 1:09 PM

Posts: 76 | 3M adhesive remover or Menards carpet remover. Saturate and let sit for at least an hour. Use wire brush on a drill and it comes off with ease. Completely restored my Lund 1890 last spring. PM me if you have any questions.

Posts: 383 | In the end there is probably no substitute for the tedium of elbow grease. I redid a Ranger 681 last year and am right now, this week, redoing the floor on a Lund Pro V. I am going into day three with a hand scraper. Not much fun, but I've learned the results are worth it. And boy, those scrapers really do work. Hoping to start with the new flooring tomorrow. Going to commercial grade vinyl. No more carpet!
