Posts: 20230 Location: oswego, il | I am nowhere near the artist that anyone else is down here but I have been making my own bucktails, spinnerbaits, bait rigs leaders and even a few small topwaters for around 15 years. Made this spinnerbait for our january club raffle. Skirt is tied with two double wrapped and crimped 15lb stranded wire lines. The big saltwater trailer has a shrink wrapped .051 wire extension to the spinnerbait hook. The hook is run through the squid head and a .124 wire wrap on the hook to keep it from coming off. The blade is a #13 with a double ball bearing swivel. Probably should have put one more 1" section of round rubber on it but this is a big bait and will look great in the water. Posts: 364 Location: Central Wisconsin | Looks great! I have just started getting into making spinners. This site is such a good reference place for designs that work and methods for doing them. Thanks for sharing Todd!

Posts: 469 Location: MN | Todd, Great looking spinnerbait. I like your skirt idea. Black and Firetiger look really sharp. My only question: Is .051 wire strong enough for #12 blade? Edited by psv 1/6/2014 12:00 AM

Posts: 20230 Location: oswego, il | PSV, the spinnerbait arm is way heavier than .051, it's at least .062 or heavier. I should have been more clear, the trailer hook is not made to be one, the eye is too small to fit over the barb of the spinnerbait hook., I made a very short .051 connection so that loop will fit over the hook. That loop is inside the squid head and is pretty tight but I wrapped .174 leader wire in the spinnerbait hook small and neat and that will keep it from ever slipping off. I also make bucktail skirts with the wire. I am able to pull it very tight and crimp it using vise grips against the bench and crimping with another pair of vise grips.

i like the color.but if you want to play with big blades like this you should use at least 062.with a lil wire the the tip of your hook should be hit by the blade.feel free to post some pics of the others baits style that you make Edited by jano 1/9/2014 2:48 PM

Posts: 20230 Location: oswego, il | Jano, just want to re-establish, the actual spinnerbait is .062 or maybe bigger, the attachment wire extension an inch long max for the trailer hook is .051. I will post some other pics of lures.

Posts: 20230 Location: oswego, il | Guest, I have had this blade sitting around for a long time. I don't remember where I bought it. I made a bucktail with it and tried it and the bait was off axis really bad, no balance. I cut it up and remade it without this blade and finally decided to use it.
