| I have been using the new Lexa on my glider/weagle rod the last three times out. At first glance out of the box I thought it was a bass reel because how small it was, I had to double check to mae sure it was actually the 300 model, it feels tiny but can still hold well over 100 yards of 80 lb powerpro. I have the 6:3 ratio and it performs flawlessly, quickly picks up the slack line. The reel is also SMOOOOOTTTHHHHHH probably smoother than my Revo Toro 60 and it is so much for comfortable and smaller than the Revo 60. I bought mine on ebay for $165 shipped to my door... Pretty good deal. If anyone was having second thought about these new reels, DONT! |

I'm sure the Lexa 300 has a Dis - Engaging Levelwind !!!!!
Here are some pics of the insides, wish it had a pinion bearing instead of a plastic bushing ??? maybe I can upgrade to a bearing ????

| So, Pikemaster, what do you think of the reel as it relates to musky fishing? Advertised as a musky reel by Daiwa......how do you think it stacks up compared to a Revo? What will give first on it? I placed an order for a HS to try out.....can get a Revo for just a tad more than I paid for this one and I really like the Revos. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | I used a Lexa 300 in 6.3 gears for a day in MN last month, I was casting topwater baits, for the day and the reel was fine, feels the same as a Curado or Toro 50. For under $200.00 it is a great reel. Will it pull DCG 8-10 all day NO. Will it hold up Yes, if used the right way. I wish Daiwa had this reel in 5.3:1 and 4.9:1 then you could use it for DCG 8-10, the 6.3:1 is just to tall and the brass gears will not take the kind of torque for long before they will sound like a coffee grinder. I hope I can get a bearing to replace the plastic bushing used for the pinion support, that will keep the pinion inline with the main gear better then the plastic bushing that will wear out fast with hard pulling Musky baits. Time will tell, but I'm glad Daiwa came out with a low profile reel.
What I like about this reel was the Cast Controll system, you can adjust this reel from the outside so if the wind kicks up dial more Cast Control on if you change baits and you need to cast a lighter bait turn down the Cast Control.
With the Dis - Engaging levelwind system 65lb and 80lb braid will be the sweet line to use for this reel. |
