Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | I have an Abu BG 7001 HS that I can not for the life of get to work. Reels smooth and as soon as there is a little bit of tension (even a small bucktail) the reel starts to slip (gears?) I've shipped it to Abu Garcia, in Iowa two or three times in the last four years and have yet been able to use it. Every time it comes back I have the same issue. When I tighten the knob on the right (I'm a lefty-not the tension knob) I can't reel. It's very tough and doesn't sound right. When I loosen that knob line pulls out and the reel "slips." Anyone help? Anyone close to North St. Paul that wants to give it a shot? Thanks, Steve

Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | I was messing with the drag, tightened it down, and now once in a while the anti-reverse goes out and it back reels.

Posts: 28 Location: Esbjerg - Denmark | Sound like you have a slipping drag - Gears don't slip - They either engage og disengage.!! You shouldn't set the knob on the right too hard - Put your tumb on the spool, and set the knob just tight enough, that you cant move the spool from side to side. That knob is only a cast control, and tightend too hard, you'll put to much pressure on the spool-axel both ruining the reel and getting some nasty noices... I would upgrade to greased carbon-drags, and make sure that the drag-system is correctly put together.! If your not up for the job, either ask PIKEMASTER, og go to http://alantani.com - They will both be able to help you out.!!

Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | When the reel is engaged, what would cause line to come out and the reel handle to go in reverse? It doesn't happen all the time, but frequent enough.

If your handle is able to turn the wrong way, you for sure have a worn or defect Anti/Reverse pawl (part 13372 on the schematics). Posts: 416 Location: Madtown, WI | Doesn't sound like a drag problem, your AR bearing is not doing what it should. Make sure it's not full of grease or oil, that could cause it to slip. If you replace the AR bearing, replace the sleeve that fits inside of it as well. If you've shipped it to IA that many times, can't you just ask for a new reel? Doesn't the lemon law apply at this point? They should be able to fix that easily but if it keeps happening something else is going on. Did you ever step on the reel handle or anything?

Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | I agree about sending it. I gave it to the gentleman that fixes them up at the MN expo and he took my name, etc and brought it back to IA with him. Two other times I've sent it. Agreed...I think it's time to call. I was just wondering if it would be an easy fix for me. Apparently it could be a few different things and I don't think I'm up for it on my own. Thanks guys. I've had good experiences with Abu Garcia in the past, including this, as they've never charged me anything. I hope that continues with this. Again, thank you, guys. Steve
