| Looking at going to lake of the woods this summer and I read that if you stay at a US resort that in order to fish the Canada side you have to call into immigration and tell them before you go, is this correct? if so how big of a pain is it or better to find a resort in Canada. Also, not finding to many canada resorts north of northwest angle other than Sandys. are there any others in that area? Thanks |

| if you get an RABC (Remote Area Border Crossing) permit you don't have to call in each day.

| The call in is easy. May not need to calll this year. Trade offs: more travel on water from the Mn Angle resorts but much cheaper gas prices. |

| Like Lambeau said the RABC is easy to get unless you have blemishes on your record (DUI, arrests, convictions) then you will probably need to cal since they won't give you a permit. You can obtain it online and the cost last year was $30. |

| that is the fee per person to get the RABC. it takes at least a few weeks to process and get back so be sure to plan far enough ahead of time.
everyone in the boat must have an RABC; if even one person does not have it then you've still got to stop and call.

| The one exception to the per person fee on the RABC is that I think up to 4 family members can be put onto the same permit. I really can't remember if they increase the price or not, but I don't believe it does. The government website will give you all the specifics and details on them. I've been too late in booking trips to have time to get an RABC every year and have had to do the phone in every morning and if you are ready with all the required info it only takes a couple minutes. Certainly no reason not to stay on the US side.

Location: Warroad, Mn | Yes, the RABC does include family members, and every one in the boat needs one. One of the nice things about getting a RABC is that you go through an admissibility check so you are pretty sure you can get into Canada.
Generally the call-in procedure is just minutes, I've probably done it 500+ times.
