Would be interested to hear from those who unfortunately had it occur to them or someone they know as it has to me. When, How, Where, etc. Maybe we can all learn.

I was going out to fish on Green Bay during the walleye run in April. Stopped at the gas station right near the landing in Allouez. All four of us had been drinking coffee all way up to Green Bay and we all had to get inside. Not a good idea to leave all at the same time. We were in there less then five minutes and someone helped themselves to a tacklebox out of the boat. Mine was the only they could get at. I learned a few lessons that day. If going walleye fishing, no need to bring the whole musky arsenal. I lost close to $400 dollars that day. Some lures had sentimental value- first musky that sort of thing. Never leave boat alone unless equipment is locked up. I always thought sportsman would never do that to another sportsman., maybe it was some kid who knows. If someone was going to do that, that landing during the spawn would be the spot. Tons of traffic-boats everywhere. That was 7 years ago and I am still bitter. To top it off the only fish I caught that day was a carp.

Learn??? Don't trust anybody and either watch your stuff or lock it up out of sight of prying eyes. Pretty simple. People steal EVERYWHERE , even in small towns. Protect your stuff and shoot the thieves!!!!!!! Al

I had over 70 Bulldawgs stolen out of my boat while it was "beached" on shore. I ran into the parking lot outhouse to take care of business and when I got back 70 mag dawgs....GONE

Ouch Mike...I don't like it when I lose a dawg to a crib - would cry like a baby if I lost my collection

I'm always suspicious when people are asking for lure ID online. If they don't know what a lure is called, it makes me wonder where they got it? Especially when I've seen some older lures or limited editions. I realize that someone could recieve a box of baits from a friend or family member that simply can't fish anymore for whatever reason. Anyways, I'm always leary when I see people asking for lure id. Any thoughts?

I have traded for things and not known exactly what they were and then put them up here to see if anyone can give me an exact answer. Wouldn't make much sense to steal something and then post it on the most visited fishing website in the entire world to find out what it is. Wouldn't make much sense to me anyway........

There's a lot of musky tackle for sale on Ebay by people who clearly do not musky fish. The descriptions are amusing, but I always wonder exactly the same thing: "Where exactly did you GET that stuff you are selling?"

Luckily I have never had anything stolen, except the few baits that seem to find their way out of my box and into boxes of friends. I try not to let my gear out of my sight if possible.

I've asked for several lure ids before, and I'm pretty sure I haven't stolen any of those baits. I buy groups of lures from time to time with things I've never seen before. I also will try anything once, so just because I don't know what something is doesn't mean I won't buy it or trade for it.

Yeah a lot of those descriptions can put a smile on your face for the rest of the night! I just assumed the people got these things from an estate sale, garage sale, or handed down from relatives.

Check out the forum on the Just Encase tackle boxes. They are built not only with a locking cover/lid, but they also can be locked to your boat with a cable (the cable also comes with the tacklebox). This was also part of the original design. We all have a lot of money invested in our tackle, and all it takes is one minute for one knucklehead to walk off with hundreds of dollars worth of gear. They can see all those lures in there, but there is no way they are going to get at them.
