OK, here goes, I upgraded from my 16ft Smoker Craft to a Ranger 620. Obviously there is a difference in length. It is gonna be pretty tight fitting the 620 in my garage and would almost rather not if possible.

I guess this is directed to guys like Jason S, Scott J and all you other guys with bigger boats.

Where (if not in your garage) are you storing your boats, or what tips do you have for me? I am having a custom cover made for storage also. I just need a little guiding in the right direction. I appreciate it and look forward to your replies.

I use a cover, Scott uses a swing away tongue and gets it in his garage.

If you leave it outside...apply LOTS of wax..[;)]

You won't want to hear this, then: when I got my 21 ft. Gambler I built a new garage for it since nothing I had came close to holding it. Cha-ching! m[]

I am running a 20'3" Champion. Luckily I have a single axle trailer and am able to put it diagonal in a 2 car garage. It takes every inch to get her in. If you can, keep it indoors, you will reap many benefits of not having corroded wires/batteries from all the dew! + you can sit in it at night and pretend to be on the water with noone looking!

Phil I have a 620 also and I needed the removable tounge to get her into the garage. That is were a boat belongs when not on the water. At least my opinion when you spend that kind of money. Not alot of room left in a two car garage when you stuff a 620 into it,the good thing is I built a 16 x 20 ft shed for all the things that were in the garage that are now out of my way. I hope yours will fit, nice to back it in and close the door. Keeps the theft problem solved.

I have a custom cover for my boat. The one thing that I do to make sure snow etc. doesn't pile up and weight it down and tear it, is to strategically place 6-20 gallon plastic barrels inside the boat in areas where the cover sags. It works great and eliminates alot of the worries of storing a covered boat outside for the winter.
Let me know if you need some barrels, we have many empties here where I work.

If you can fit in into the garage do it at all cost. If you can't, make sure you get a WATERPROOF custom cover. You;ll have to pull the cover off every now and then to dry it out a bit. It's a shame to buy the king of boats only to keep it outside. Look into a garage extension. If your garage is pitched it should be the cheapest way to go.

MuskyPippo

I have a Ranger with a trailer that has a removable tongue that barley fits into my garage. I solved the problem by adding a front hitch to my tow vichicle. you won't belive how easy it is to manuver the boat when it connected to the front of your vehicle. I can place the drivers side of the boat within an inch or two of the garage wall with ease.

Congrats on the new boat!

Like Jason said above, I store my boat in the garage. When we designed our house, it had to have a separate section just for the boat. Although, I never in my wildest dreams ever thought I would have a 20' boat (I think it is more like I thought my wife would cut me off if I ever thought about it) - LOL. I had to measure everything to make sure it would fit in the garage before I went ahead and ordered it. I got the swing tongue which makes it extremely easy to fit in the garage. Plenty of room front and back.

I would recommend putting it in your garage if at all possible. The biggest thing I like about having it in the garage is it is ready in a moments notice - hooked up and on the lake fishing in a couple of minutes. Also, I can sit and tinker in it and not have to worry about putting anything away. If it gets wet from the weather, I can open all of the compartments and let it dry out.

If you have to store it outside, make sure you spend the extra money for a high quality cover.

Good luck!

I am luckier than most. When I built my house in '97 I built the garage 30' x 35' to put in vehicles and the boat. I even have enough room to park the boat across the back in the winter. In the garage is where that Ranger belongs. You have got a great boat with a large $$$$$ investment, take the best care of it that you can.

I had the same problem, BIG boat, small garage. The house I live in has a coverted carriage house for a garage and it's too small to even fit my truck in, much less a 21'6" boat.

Until a tree fell during the 10" of snow that we had recently, I had been parking my boat under one of those temporary canopies. I'd picked this up at Sam's Club for $150 (10'x20')and it worked just fine. I put the cover on the boat, parked it under the shelter and occasionally would have to go out and push the snow off the roof. It kept the vast majority of "stuff" off/out of the boat.

I've ordered a new canopy from Menard's. It's similar to the plastic tarp version that I had, but this one is all metal. It looks like the "cart corrals" at Sam's Club. The size is 12x24 and runs around $600. I'd rather have a big enough garage, but the lot size and budget don't allow for a new garage.
