| I have a Minn Kota Maxxum cable foot pedal 65lb thrust on my boat. Today my bro called me to tell me it crapped out on him. It was working and then suddenly quit and will not respond. I am almost 100% sure the batteries were fully charged. Any possible ideas? The motor is 5 years old and we have not had any problems until now. It doesnt get a ton of use compared to some on this board. If it really died on me, what suggestions do you guys have for a new one. I am not against a power drive type with a longer cable/wire. Just not something in the $1500 plus range. | |||

Posts: 282 Location: north west wisconsin | mine does that sometimes too SOmetimes the battery termanils are just loose enough to cause a short and it dont work and some times i have to switch the switch... a couple of times to get it to come back on i agree with everyone check the easy stuff first you can rip the whole pedal apart and trace the wire it might be a bad connection or a loose wire

Posts: 468 Location: Not where I wanna be! | check connnections first, then fuses. and it just may be the foot pedal. if that is the case 40 bones will get you a new one. but other than that, good luck!!!

Posts: 5874 | The fuses or circuit breakers would be very near the batteries. Some CB's auto reset, some don't. If you see a plastic piece sticking out of one end of the CB, push it in to reset it. I think the pedal you are talking about is for the PowerDrives. Maxxuum is a cable steer, and they don't seel the pedal's separately. If you can't get it going, get it to a Minn kota service center. If you are anywhere near Milwaukee, that would be Ed Schilling. He's the best.

Dave i may be wrong, but i thought i saw them at Cabela's in Rogers MN, for $40. that was the old style from a year or two ago. and those wont work with the newer models.... However, i may have mis-read the price tag....it wouldnt be the first time!! ill double check

Location: Athens, Ohio | My guess is a popped breaker / fuse or loose terminal connection. Had that happen on a Motorguide, just quit real suddenly. If it is a popped fuse, now you'll need to figure out why it popped! Maybe too long a run at top power got a wire hot? m

| Just had the same problem with the same make and model motor. Pull the prop and see if you have fishing line in it. I pulled the line and noticed a small looking cut in the seal, when I took it in there was about 3/8" of line sucked in that broke the seal and allowed water in. Even though there was only about a table spoon of water it was enough to mess things up. The seals are cheap and a good mechanic will have it fixed in less than an hour. | |||

| Found out it was a popped breaker near the battery. It reset and it now works. I checked the prop and had some dried weeds on it. Took it off. I also heard my bro was pushing through sand bottom with the trolling motor so the resistance could have done it....i hope thats it. Thanks for the help. | |||
