| I've read on past threads that Abu has re-designed the 7000 series, my personal favorite. Instant anti-reverse, palming side plates, what? Also, a lever instead of the push button and some of the reels will be black. Wow, more info please!!!!! Kdawg |

| No palming side plate on them but they do have instant anti reverse and a lever instead of a push button. At first one would think that the lever would be ackward to use but once you use it you find out that it is just as easy, or easier, than a push button.
4.1 gears on all of them except the 7000iHSN which has 5.3 gears in it. They all have the new Carbon Matrix drag washers in them also. |

| I've heard some very negative things about quality/durability in the new 7000's. I also heard that many of the parts are now made in Asia. |

| The new 7000's should be in stores in October.
There was a problem with the first 7000HSN's in that the hole through the pinion gear was to small and the spool shaft and pinion gear got siezed together. This problem has been rectified.
Yes some of the parts are now made in Aisa, unfortunatly that is a reality in todays market. Other than most Abu's being made in Sweden I am not aware of any reels that are not made in Aisa! |

| When those new HSN's came out, I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Unfortunately, I was one of those anglers that had the spool freeze up. I was in shock! A 7000 reel failure? I could not believe it, until I flipped the reel over. I observed a little sticker that read "assembled in Sweden with parts made in Taiwan". I then called a customer rep from abu who admitted that "yes, parts are now being made in the orient". Now I know the reason for the failure. I own 5 7000's, a red one from the eighties, two black models, a 7000cl big game and a black europe only model, a 7200. All made in Sweden that perform with perfection. I own a 7000c3 and the gold big game hsn taiwan phonies. Abu cleverly threw some 1 cent stickers on them reels calling them "The Original". Why can't abu just offer us 1 line of reels made in sweden with swedish parts? A 5000,6000,7000, line. Give us fisherman the choice,the customer is always right,...right? Kdawg |

we do have the choice, and we "vote" with our pocketbooks. buying habits influence production.
i believe this is EXACTLY what happened at Abu to lead to the recent changes in many of their reels.
i was very down on Abus after a number of bad experiences with '04 and '05 models.
however, after putting a couple of the new reels through the ringer this year, my confidence is restored.
i'll be buying a 5600EXT and a 7000iHSN in the very near future. |

| The new EXT is a Korea-made reel engineered in Svängsta Sweden. The classic line of reels (c3, Record, Rockets etc.) is still Made in Sweden and very good quality products. The new Revo is made in Korea but it seems to be a very good reel. I suppose that the main reason for moving production to Asia is spellled "WAL MART". Wal Mart is the single largest customer for ABU-Garcia....by far. And WM wants cheap products for its customers and if ABU cant make a reel for a certain price...Wal Marts dollars will go to another reel manufacturer.
Here in Sweden we sometimes think that it would be better for ABU if it still was a Swedish company and not owned by Pure Fishing. But we live in a huge global market and ABU alone would be a very small company.
It´s nothing bad about Asia-produced products. If there is a good construction paired with good materials...the reel will end up as a good product even if its "Made in USA" = )

| Want a deal on 7000's????
for those of you who attend the Minnesota Muskie expo each year Reeds brings Berkley factory refurbished reels to sell at their booth,,,these are reels sent in by customers to berkley/abu and exchanged for new ones then these get rebuilt with all the bugs figured out and sold has 'refurbs",,,last year we got 6 7000 hsn's for $60 each has compared to $130 new,,,,mine works great and is the best bucktail reel Ive ever owned |
