| Looking to plan a couple of trips this summer. Would love to check out Mille Lacs, any help on best part of lake to lodge & fish. Steve, I know this should be right up your alley.

| Good choice. We were up last year and at the recommendation of some good folks on the walleyecentral board, stayed at McQuoids and used Aaron McQuoid as our walleye guide. Couldn't ask for nicer accomodations, finer people, or better fishing. While on the lake, Aaron got a pretty fine walleye and suddenly called my son up to the front of the boat. They watched as a huge musky followed the 'eye in; Aaron figure-8'd his fish, trying to get the 'ski to t-bone it. The brute finally spotted the boat and with a tail swish, was gone. What a thrill! Lots of water.... lots of choices.... McQ's is very nice...and growing every day...Depend on time of year on where I'd fish but I'd most likely start at Indian Point and work south. I don't recommend resorts very often cause everyone has different tastes.. www.millelacs.com has a good listing of resorts and links. | When I have gone to Mille Lacs we usually try to fish Wakon Bay. There are a couple nice drifts we have done. I haven't stayed at any of the resorts in the area, but I have fished Wakon a few times. We keep bringing them up, now if we could just get them to bite. From what I have read McQuoid's is pretty nice, and last year they brought in a 56" muskie, and let her go, after pictures. They saw the fish a few more times after that, so she would probably have grown a little more. If you give up on the ski's you can go after Smallies, or Largemouth in Wakon also. We brought in a 22" Large 2 years ago after we decided we were not going home without a fish. Good luck, and enjoy.

| If you don't mind a short drive you can stay at Kathio State Park. It is just down the road from Eddy's Resort, just off 169, and Shakopee Lake rd. It has decent facilities for camping. I took my family there 2 summers ago. Here is a link to the info on the park.

| I don't mind saying that I had an unpleasant experience with one of the owners of Eddies. No need for it to be an inside joke I don't think. Actually, I'd prefer everyone knew that the guy was a jerk. There are a few bad apples who show up on certain lakes, or at a tourney here or there that act completely unprofessional and make a bad name for the rest of us good sportsmen and women. The owner of the Eddies is one of those bad apples.

| Luckily I never deal with the owner's of Eddy's. I have a friend who lives down the road from Eddy's, and I just stay there if I am by myself. If I am with the family I will camp at Kathio. At least they have stuff for the kids to do in the park. Also if the wind is blowing you can launch your boat in the Rum river within the park below the Buckmore dam. I saw some low-mid 30's inch northern come out below the dam with sucker minnows. I also saw the same guys hit some 5-6 lbs largemouth, and you also can find some smallies below the dam, and down to Shakopee lake. You have to take your boat out of the park to get on Mille Lacs, but you can launch the boat at many different resorts, for a small fee, or if you are early enough you can hit a public launch. Eddy's has over priced drinks, so I wouldn't recommend it for the social atmosphere. Have fun fishing.

| Go to www.exploreminnesota.com and search on Mille Lacs for the body of water. 36 resorts come up including Father Hennipen State Park, which has camping. There are a couple other places that come up with campgrounds in their title.

| Me and my dad usually stay at Father Hennipen about 5 times a year, and it is awesome. Clean, great boat loading, and Isle bay is right there! They also have the albino deer (only two now,one was poached, I've never seen them though)and the rangers are very nice. You may want to go up there and look around at places around the lake for a day. Take a look in F.H. the rangers will definately let you go in to take a peek...

P.S. The area around the Maple View (in Father Hennipen) boat landing is very busy with muskys cruising around in the early season, before and during spawn. Always in pairs. Seen some monsters in l.5ft of water. |
