Is the new spiderwire stealth fishing line really better than my old stand by 80lb. power pro? Do they make an 18 diameter or bigger because I cant find large diameter stealth anywhere in town? Do i need to order it?

Bret

P.S. I am the one who caught the world record muskie.... sorry no pics for you, just for me - jk

It's a Ford vs. Chevy question. Is it better? who knows. Do some prefer one over the other? Definately. Stealth is simply the old Spiderwire w/ a teflon (or teflon-like) coating added. When new, it sheds water nicely, as it ages, it seems to become like all the others. I like it, but truthfully can't compare it to others because I haven't used them. It's relatively inexpensive (compared to other superlines) and if you can get a hold of some 80 lb. give it a try, only you can decide if you really like it.

(nice fish; would have loved to have seen it)

Hey Kent, congrats on your confirmation. No turning back now.I used Stealth exclusively last season, starting with 80 and then moving up to 100lb because I liked the thicker diameter a bit better.Kent was right on.I'll still use it, but got an incredible deal on 2 1500yd spools of 100lb Power Pro.I'll be using Power Pro for a while, unless of course "something" happens.Ya never know.I do like 80lb Spectron a lot too and sell an awful lot of Tuff and Tuff+ at the store.Lots of good options. Does the Teflon shed off the line with use?

I'm not sure if the coating slowly sheds itself from the line or it just softens up a bit, but there is a noticable difference in line that is new and line that has been used a season. Either way, it doesn't hold much water and it always seems to cast well; new or old.

I have been using Spider Wire Stealth in 100lbs test on a Calcutta 400 for the last year. I like it a lot. I have used Power Pro in both 65 and 80 and may just continue to use the stealth when its time to buy more....

Kevin, can you convince me its better than power pro,, why do you like it so much?

I'll try it anyway on one rod this year.

I have cast it for one year now... no problems.. It casts smooth, feels great while fighting a fish, power runs by the fish won't cause dig in backlashes..

I use both of them. You can't go wrong with either line.

I have used Stealth in #80 pound the last two years and I love it. I have tried just about everything and find this line the best by far. The coating seems to last a long time and the line performs very well in all aplications. It casts very well and does not dig into the reel. The true test for me however is how does it perform while speed trolling. I do alot of speed trolling where you do bang into alot of rocks. The line holds up very well while others seem to break and cut easly. This can get very expensive. I lost alot of lures while trying out power pro and others. Stealth seems to perform the best in this application.

The coating you are talking about on the Stealth, I'm assuming that is what I was feeling when I was running it through my fingers as I was putting it on? It almost felt like the line was frayed but after a closer inspection it appeared to be a waxy almost beads on the line?
