Location: Athens, Ohio | Mauser is coming to Ohio Friday to fish Leesville Lake for the first time (my third time there). Reports are that the boat ramp is now closed due to high water but water levels are steady and starting to drop. We've had lots of rain so I expect less-than-clear-water conditions. Leesville is a good numbers lake, and half of all fish caught there last year were taken in June and July. Assuming we can get my BassTracker ("My other boat is a Gambler") off the trailer, how would you fish high, murky / muddy water this time of year? Shallow or deep? Cold front just came thru today, cooling trend (mid-70's day, into mid-40's night) into the weekend. Thanks! I need an Ohio muskie to join the Huskie Muskie club, hoping it will be this weekend. m Edited by mikie 5/26/2004 12:49 PM

Dude! Fish like you do the Cave in the spring; put on that $2 bait, but change the hooks, and BINGO...another gooder one at boatside. Might chuck some buck too along the banks; remember BruceKY nailed his nice one w/ Teck in like manner...use rattle baits slow...this coming from a musky fishless peep the past 3 years!

Jointed Believers, Jointed Baby Depthraiders and hot colored minnow and crankbaits in the warmest water areas, areas with new weed growth around other structure, and around pods of baitfish.

Go shallow and use a spinnerbait with a colorado blade or another bait with lots of vibration.

Dude, the rocks are sucking wind; h2o is real warm, and many schools have some type of wierd virus in their gills/mouths. Fall fishing should be good though, summer time it's too daggone hot and they croak easily when caught. Gotta get another boat too; sold me Carolina Skiff this past fall and fishing outta bro's boat. We need to meet Raze/Mauser at the Cave maybe this fall; gotta dude at work that wants to check it out...

Location: Athens, Ohio | Wow, thanks, guys. I'm starting to get the hang of this, I was seriously considering Bulldawgs due to the cold front, and downsizing baits, looking for warm water. Y'all have taught me well, now to just get my hooks into one! I'll look for your report, Goonmeister, hope you hang a hawg today. From what I read on the HuskieMuskie board, waters are surprizingly clear in spite of the rain. m

Posts: 82 | Mikie, raised 5 fish and lost one trolling (never even got to the rod). No big ones, all in 8 feet of water where there used to be weeds. (Hint: you can see Clow's Marina where I raised the fish). ERC DD (Tennessee Shad) and CJ's spinner (firetiger) raised the fish. Lost one on 00 AC Shiner (silver/black). A few trucks and trailers in the lot, ramp is supposed to be closed but no signs stating such. The concrete walkway at the ramp is covered by about a foot and a half of water, so be careful. Good luck! Jim Edited by goonmeister 5/27/2004 12:33 PM

Location: Athens, Ohio | Bulldawgs it was. Rained a bit when I first got there and the cold front came through. Mid afternoon I was drifting a bank at a place they call the W , wind was blowing current back into one of the bays and I was casting up into the slack water. I completed one drift and saw a fish absolutely nail something about 10 feet from my boat. I passed down the spot again, and saw a boat coming toward me, it was RAZE! We chatted a while, and watched a guy from Wheeling (he was launching same time I was) drift the same bank. About his 4th cast with a white dawg he nailed a mid-40. nice fish. At least I was in the right place at the right time this time, with the right bait. Great day to be out, thanks again for all the helpful advices. m
