Posts: 49 Location: S. Wisconsin | I heard one was pulled out of Lake Michigan recently that significantly surpasses the current state record. Any word on that?

Posts: 49 Location: S. Wisconsin | That is all the info I have, I'm out in farmland, farmer came in my work all excited after talking to dnr employee while getting a deer permit. Apparently there is a photo. Ill call dnr tomorrow morning. If these fish take off in the big lake, you can kiss inland fishing records goodbye. IL will have to seperate inland/big water records. Smallmouth record has and will come only from there now. Walleye record is in real danger too... Ill get back asap with any info, even if it turns out to be BS.

Posts: 49 Location: S. Wisconsin | IL DNR closed for the holiday. Of course. I will follow up on this. Hoping it's not true for reasons previously stated.

Posts: 116 | "Still nothing though a 57 was caught trolling GB WI today" Given the events of Sunday, October 11th, it needs to be larger than 57. Edited by R/T 10/13/2026 1:21 PM

Posts: 49 Location: S. Wisconsin | Huge gorgeous healthy fish there. No call back from the IL DNR. They probably think I'm nuts. Wouldn' be the first time. I'm calling Farmer Chad the Barley Baron of Northern Illinois today about this supposed Lake Michigan IL muskie. He said he saw a photo while getting his deer permit. I want more details. I will WRESTLE HIM to the ground if I have to... The IL state record Muskellunge AND Hybrid are doable, amd have been for the last few years. I haven't been fishing, kinda lost interest in 2012 when that Bellaire fish was caught. I found an ambitious partner with a BOAT this year and am back at it. Golly! There are several record breakers out there now. Someone's gotta haul one in this year, eh? The state record walleye guy, an interesting figure, will probably beat his own record again, I talk to a guy that fished with him...always on the water, he won't stop. Not a trophy hunter either. If Muskie and Walleye take hold in the Big Lake it will wipe inland records forever (like SmallMouth) and I simply like casting more than trolling.

Posts: 2124 | Highly doubtful IL will ever have a fishable population on Lake Michigan, if you would stock the Chicago river with 50,000 12” annually, then look out… ah ya just give the dnr a couple million $$$ a year maybe they’ll do that? Even then they probably wouldn’t…now will a few muskie show up occasionally sure, they occasionally show up all over the Great Lakes…imo no chance to “take hold” in that part of the lake, unless again IL dnr made it a top priority, I highly doubt that happens- would be cool if they did! https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/about/newsroom/releases/2026/04/13/lake...
