Posts: 1290 Location: Stevens Point, Wi. | How many of you have a big fish spot, a specific spot where you have caught more than one large fish, yet doesn't seem to ever hold any thing small. I have one spot that over the past 12 years of fishing this particular body of water, has yielded a 48+ and a 49+ along with one unseen early release of increadible power that still brings tears to my eyes. I fish this body of water 10 to 15 times a year and hit this spot 3 to 4 times each and every time there. Those 3 fish are the only ones I have ever encountered at "the spot" The spot is so nondescript I have never seen another boat fishing there. It is only a 30 foot long weed edge that drops abrubtly from 2 to 12 feet with a slight current through it, but every time I approach it the hair on the back of my neck starts to raise. I really don't know what attracts the fish to this spot or if it holds a fish much of the time but it sure seems magical.

Posts: 93 Location: Waukesha, WI. | ghoti, the hair on my neck stood up just reading about it. I would fish this spot every time out on this lake or river. WEEDS and CURRENT can't get much better. Sounds like the same kind of spot I got my 46" last year. This is a spot to keep under your hat!!

Posts: 32944 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I have a spot like that on Pelican. If there is a fish there, it is a big girl. 3 over 50 off that spot, with no little fish, and several over 46. No idea why, it is in the middle of another area that holds all sorts of fish. Tiny spot, 1/2 cast across.

Posts: 1430 Location: Eastern Ontario | That's a good question, I have 3 spots that can put out a handfull or two of 50+ inchers each and every year. But only one of them produces big fish exclusively and that's the spot that gives up the least. Now this can be a thing of timing as that spot seems to shine in late summer only when the others produce all year long. One thing for sure tho I time my visits to these spots as to not pound them to much, you would not believe the effects of a bit of extra pressure can do to a big fish spot. I try to hit them but a couple fo times a week and pick peak times as that's when the bigger fish are active. Your right about the hair raising abilities of such spots, but the fun part is that I know what each and every spot is about but the clients don't. I think it is best that way as some couldn't handle it.

Posts: 1290 Location: Stevens Point, Wi. | Some of the comments bring up an interesting question. Is the spot good because of it's environment, or is the spot good because it isn't pressured much? Also, because small fish are apparently not present, does that mean there is usually a big girl hanging around and it's just a matter of timing or are these small spots usually just void of fish?

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | There is a spot like that on a Minoqua lake I fish. They only show themselves on topwaters, or bucktails, but when there is a fish on the spot is is always a big girl. My buddy popped a 49 off the spot in Oct. It is a pretty large area, but there are a lot of changes in it, and there are 2 spots that show the big girls. It's kinda like a burger. There are 2 weedlines, and a hump in the middle surrounded by deep water near a narrows. Apparently the big girls like it.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Contrary to others beliefs on this board, there are no big fish in Pelican so stay away!! Actually I have a couple areas on Pelican that seem to be hog troughs also, one of them being some of the most classic looking water in the lake. You would swear you would move a fish there every time you fish it but you rarely do......oh, but when you do!! The spot is much like Steve said, fairly small, a couple of casts and you've really covered it.....hmmm, wonder if its the same area! Edited by nwild 2/19/2004 9:08 AM

Posts: 544 Location: Alsip, Il | You guys like the other post got the hair on my arm raising! I have a spot on Lake of The Woods, for the past five years during my one week there I know myself or my partner will get a crack at a good size fish, let's see 45" caught, 48"caught, 51" caught, 45" plus lost, 54" plus lost and 48" caught. I hope I don't jinx myself by posting this. Is it the third week of July yet? Al
