I have a good frost on the Tuffy outside right now... Its that time of year.

I have found on some lakes that the first frost of the year turns the fish on.

Has anyone else seen that pattern?

Jason,

It was raining and darn cold out today. We managerd a 36" ski and I also caught a 6 pound largemouth on a grim reaper....it was one of those days. A big storn took us off the water a little early. I do feel the big fish feeling in the air though....how did you make out this weekend.

Terrible day today. Was about 40 degrees and had a probobly 20 mph wind. My battery died and i had to paddle/use the motor barely working to get to the dock. It was not very easy or fun. I did have one muskie go after a suck though, but it didn't bite it, just looked at it. Almost tipped the boat twice today also. Would not feel very good to fall in that water...

Jamie, Both me and Worrall went out today and froze for about 2 hours. Very cold hard blowing NW wind. I saw one hot fish on a 7" Slammer, and he missed one on a jig.

That be it.

Extra clothes weren''t enough in the gale winds for 7 hours, but a heavy 41"er in the boat, on a 5" Slammer crankbait, helped a whole bunch! We also netted a 32" muskie at the west landing without hooking it, with a normal sized head and tail but a body that was half the diameter of a healthy fish it was very bizarre!
Tomorrow we will see if tip-ups are necessary with the wake up temperature forcasted at around 25!! Pray for us!

You guys stay warm. I'll be grouse and woodcock hunting with my 6 year old German Wirehaired Pointer. Maybe when Zeke is too old to hunt I'll be muskie fishing in October, but I'll probably have another eager bird dog ready to go by then. I guess I'm just a summer muskie junke and I'll miss out on those fall brutes. Good luck!

Jason,

On the way to Detroit Lake in Becker Co. MN, a bank time and temp sign read 25 degrees at 6:30 Saturday Morning.

I launched the boat and had a 37" by 10:30 am. Lost two fish inbetween 10:30 and noon. Things were slow till 5:15 pm then hit a 36" , 5:30 hit another 36" and at 6:30 a 34" grabbed my spinnerbait. Sunday morning got another 36" and a 38" and my brother lost a decent fish. 2 fish were caught on Reefhawgs,2 on spinnerbaits, and 2 on suicks.

For some reason I have a hard time catching bigger fish this time of year. Last year in Oct. and Nov. I only boated one fish over 40". Trolling Jakes last November produced fish in the mid-thirties, but no big girls. Any advise on patterning bigger fish this time of year?

Thanks and GOOD FISHIN,
Muskiewaldz

Up here in the northland we had a
very cold snowy morning...the temp
dipped into the teens and I had an
inch of snow in the boat.

High winds and and snow squals all
day long.....made it uncomfortable for all of us foolhardy anglers.:)
Not much action to report..I did see two fish but they were not in
a feeding mood.

Water temps took a crash dive into the upper 40's in some of the dark
water bays....the main lake areas
were mostly in the low 50's.

The weather sunday was beautiful,
I unfortunately was watching the
Queens blow another one! [:)]
