Posts: 1460 Location: Kronenwetter, WI | For those running a 618 and have fished in big water, how does it handle? Considering downsizing from 619 but not sure how much I would sacrifice by doing so...only fish big water once a year or so.....

Posts: 103 | I have a 618 and fish lotw regularly. It handles rough stuff about as well as an 18' boat can imo. I don't think you would be disappointed downsizing

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | I disagree with the above. Having been on both, the 618 is a significant step down in handling of rough water.

Posts: 670 Location: Otsego, MN | If your talking a 618 Tiller I think your fine, been in big water with it and your good.(especially if your on big water very little) If your talking the older 618 console boat, I would not consider it. It can handle big water but I owned one once and was not a big fan of the boat.

Location: Contrarian Island | I have been in both, I see guys running around on LOTW in 618 consoles and they do just fine...sure when it gets bad a 619 is going to handle it better, but can a 618 handle big water, sure... as can a 618 tiller... if you only fish big water once a year, just know that in 3 footers you might be going a little slower than you would in your 619...

Posts: 356 | Ditto to what BNelson said. I've owned a few of both and used both a lot on 'big water'.They both get there but the 618 fishes better when you do.The 619 gets you there dryer and arguably a bit safer.Especially the 'new' 619 like I presently have. A good modification to consider, certainly for your passengers sake,is to add a second console to your 618.A friend added one to my last 618,should never have sold it.

Posts: 153 | I have a couple buddies on LOTW that run the 1880 Angler and they love them.

Posts: 233 | The 1880 Angler is a nice boat; I own one along with a 620 Fisherman. However, in my opinion, the Angler series is not in the same class as the Fisherman series as a fishing boat. The Angler is not designed as a pure fishing boat, but as a crossover between a fishing boat and a family pleasure boat. It fishes well, but I do not feel it functions as well as the Fisherman in most fishing situations. The interior will make for a great trolling boat, but the hull does not track well. The interior lacks storage. The small front deck makes casting for two very tight. There is no rear casting deck available, and the small rear space is a very long step up. The Angler is a fine boat, but if I had to do over again, I would buy a Fisherman series even if it required going to a smaller hull. Both hull styles will be safe in big water. Just my opinions as an owner of both hulls.

Posts: 3 | If you only fish big water once in a while the 618 will be just fine. Unless I needed to I wouldn't trade a 619 for one but everyone has reasons. Abu7000 your right the 1880 is not in the same class as the fisherman series thus the reason why it cost $20,000 less.

Posts: 253 | I actually own the 618 that Dick P is talking about and the boat has done very well for my partners and myself. We have fished 3 footers on LOTW before and it has handled it well. I love the boat layout and my partners appreciate the added counsel. We fish LOTW 1-2 weeks a year and it does well. Heck, if Dick P used it for a few years and he liked it then I would say that is a good recomendation. He misses the boat but it will be parked next to his current boat in a week and he can admire it then. Steve

Posts: 356 | That hurts Steve-be careful where you park it. As to wind n weather,a friend and one of LOTWs best has used his 618 on the Woods for months every year for years including usually 3 weeks of daily late Fall trolling in all kinds of weather.VERY few catch more and if anyone in Camp goes out,it's him.

Posts: 2310 Location: SE, WI. | ^^^ Dick, I bet it's Tim^^^;) I also love my 681, but not a 618, very similar! 681 handles just fine. JUst have to take it easy with big waves. MY wife usually ask's me if we are going to get back safe with the big blows...I tell her yes, as long as we take it slow. I'm sure the 619 would do the job better, but would rather fish out a 681 ! Dick; See ya in a couple:) JD Edited by jdsplasher 7/9/2016 9:58 PM
