Anybody here not a boat owner? How do you transport your 8'-9' rods?

I plan on just putting my Plano tube on my roof rails, is that not the way to go? Is there a right way and a wrong way of doing that?

thanks

I've seen guys using PVC pipe all depends on how many rod's you need to transport.

Tape rods to a wooden dowel that is longer than rods, keeps tips from breaking in rod tubes. Bill

When not carrying them in the boat I use a foot or so of foam pipe insulation you can buy cheap from Home Depot around the tips inside either my bazooka carrier or a 10' piece of 6" pvc pipe with screw cap ends

I have a 14 ram pickup with the big can I can have 12 combos ready to rock in the cab from the passenger floor board to the back window behind the driver. I can sit uninterrupted in the drivers seat and passenger back seat. A loss of floor room in front shotty seat but it doesn't bother me for 2 hour trips. 3 rods are 9' ,6 rods are 8'6" and three shorter musky rods. "Hook guard" rod socks from cabellas are key in all my rod storage and transportation needs.

You should be good if it's rigid enuff and you can find a solid way to secure it.
I've done the 10ft perforated pipe fer $7.00 with a permanent cap on one end and expandable cap on the other. The pipe is much thinner & lighter than PVC yet still strong enuff to protect rods, and the holes along the outside made it nice for securing with bungees & ropes. All said & done it costs round $20-$25 depending on what you already have at home. Put the rods in rod sleeves and never had an issue.
Search "Perforated Pipe" on the home depot site to check it out if yer so inclined.

I wrap both ends of my rods with a towel and then put them in a PVC tube, then on the roof rack.

I put my Plano tube on the roof rails for years. I put the rods in socks, and bungee them together (lightly), and then put them in the tube all together. Then I'd use ratchet-type tie-down straps to secure it to the roof rails on one side or the other so I could keep it from sliding in the wind.

I have the Thule flat top carriers (think ski/snowboard rack) and I put any rod I can't fit in my boat on top of my Jeep GC. They are exposed to the elements but I've never had any issues (they lock too). I can fit up 6-8 rods using the racks.
