Hi Everyone,

Just found out that I'm filling in for a sales leader at a Canada fly in in August. I lift off in 3 weeks. Never done anything like this before and would appreciate any tips.

Two main questions:
1. What do you recommend for travel muskie rods? All my stuff is one-piece 8'6" or bigger. They mandate under 6'6" for the float plane.

2. Traveling to Canada. What airlines are the most angler-friendly? Any tips for not losing gear/having it destroyed? Rod cases?

Thanks!

Ben T

Tackle Industries makes a nice two piece muskie rod. I have an XXH that I really like.

St croix makes a few two piece rods. The joint is near the bottom vs the middle of the rod.

I can second the TI XXH 2 piece. Very nice rod for the price.
As for rod holders,Gander Mountain had a hard case rod holder onsale last week in store only. Not sure if it still is. It seemed very stable n well suited for travel to me. I can't help ya on the travel to Canada sorry.

I have flown in twice to northern Mb. I've used a MI 9ft xh 2 piece, and liked it alot. If you have the rod shipped to you,try to use the tube it was shipped in. Also make sure the customs people can open one end easily. Btw the rod threw double 8's very well. Good fishing !

Ben,

IMO best choice is a TI 2 -piece 9' ft rod ( You will choose the best model /range for your way of fishing).
Why this ? Because Ti 2-piece rod are exactly 2- piece of the same length and then they will stock best and cheaper when you fly, instead the 2-piece rods in two asymmetrical pieces are more expensive when you fly.

I disagree I've never been charged more because my rod pieces were different lengths. As long as your unde the length your fine.

I think what he meant was the ti rod is 4 1/2 feet. 2 equal pieces. vs some designs that have a longer section (for performance). Very interesting.

Just an FYI but our Tackle Industries (TI) 2pc rods were made like they are so you can carry them onto an airplane. The airlines should let you treat them as a carry on vs the $80-$100 charge one way to put them under the plane... We have had a very good response to our 2pc TI rods over eh years. They have been all over the world now for freshwater fishing to saltwater fishing.

James - I've been leaning towards the TI 2 piece due to the 4 1/2' length. How would you describe the performance of the XH and XXH vs their single piece counterparts? I'm thinking about it from an action standpoint when working the lures. Going to be primarily throwing jerks, 8-9 blades, glides, and some topwater.
