| anybody fish the river?, I fish the section between point and rapids and im getting my butt handed to me this year, in 10 trips ive managed to see 1 fish, normally by now I would have boated a few but just cant find them. water temps were up, then water came way up now its back to just over normal, but I cant seem to find fish, tried shallow, deep and in between, fast baits, slow baits, gliders, topwater, im at a loss any suggestions? |

| Its been a tough go for me also the last couple years. There is a lot more pressure lately though. |

| yeah it gets pressure, but it gets a lot of fish stocked into it also, this is the first year I just haven't been able to find any of them, just curious as to what river strategies anyone else uses and if im missing something that would work |

Received your email regarding the tagged musky that you caught on Saturday. First off, thank you for reporting your catch. We have roughly 300-330 anchor tagged muskies, like the one you caught, in the Wisconsin River from Lake Wausau down to Castle Rock. These type of tags are used so that anglers can help us with tracking musky movements throughout the flowages and to help us get another look at growth as well.
The fish you caught is a classic example of the type of information we are trying to get…..
Your fish was initially caught during our 2010 spring netting on the Mosinee Flowage; it is a male that measured 40.5” when we initially tagged it. You are the first person to report catching this fish.
So, as you can see, your fish grew 1.5 inches in 5 years…..but that is totally expected since it is a male. And also in that 5 year period, it has worked its way through 4 dams and the spillway. Pretty crazy and pretty cool!
Thanks again for reporting your catch! It’s also great that your included a photo of the tag as it helps us see how well these tags are holding up over the years. If you have any other questions regarding Wisconsin river muskies, feel free to email or call me.

Mohawksin is very different from Petenwell for example. And actually, in my opinion "stocked a lot" is not the case at all on many stretches--Mosinee, DuBay, Merrill/Brokaw receive no stocking last I checked, Wausau, Point, Biron, WI Rapids are stocked by clubs based off of how much money they raise and therefore not necessarily a ton of fish and variable from year to year. Petenwell, Castle Rock, Mohawksin are DNR stocked which is a higher rate and have some supplemental stocking through clubs as well.
Jake Thompson is the fisheries tech for central WI and he's a muskie guy so he'll give you good information. |

So did you read his post? He said between point and rapids right in it.
He said that is where he fished, not that he was only going to fish there, there was a lot open for interpretation. The WI is a large river and one may wish to venture to different sections. Tyler has a great point. |

| biron flowage, and that's probably the only part I will fish, too many tricky spots on different sections to remember all of them, I belong to a club that stocks and also know that more fish get stocked than anyone realizes, just a tough year I guess with changing water levels almost daily, thanks for the help |
