Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | For the guys that have the Lexa 400, does the reel have some play in the shaft/handle? I just got mine in the mail yesterday & there's a little play in the shaft/handle. I just want to make sure mine isn't defective.

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | Andy, why does the handle need to be removed before tightening the drag down? Shouldn't it tighten with the handle in place? Or am i missing something?

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | I mis-spoke. You don't need to remove the entire handle, just the plate that holds the handle nut in place. There's a shim between the drag and handle. When the reels are assembled they do it with a loose drag, and tighten the handle down to that shim. When the drag is tightened it creates a space, and the handle is wobbly. When you tighten the drag and reassemble you'll notice you get another half turn on that handle nut and it firms everything up.

Posts: 670 Location: mercer wi | Shaft moves when drag is all the way backed off. Tighten down drag n see what happens.

Location: Ontario | I called Daiwa service in Toronto about this two years ago (same on 300) and they told me that it's normal.

Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | I took it apart last night and have come to the conclusion the play in the reel is normal & I'll just have to live with it. After taking it apart I wasn't too impressed with quality of the reel. I will have to see how it performs/holds up after a whole season of use. Had I not needed a high speed lefty I probably wouldn't have bought it.

Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | I also forgot to mention that there's also a clicking/tapping sound when I reel, It happens 1 to 2 times per 1 complete turn of the handle. It did this before I took it apart. I'm thinking about just sending this reel back but I really wanted to use it this weekend.

I just sent it back for exchange. I'm not going to deal with it. My buddy that has the same reel told me today that he doesn't have any play in his reel & that it's quite & smooth.
