Posts: 6 | Since Lambeau "trespassed", I might as well too...lol While fishing a walleye tourney on Lake Shelbyville in Illinois there was also a PMTT tourney going on. We were dragging 1/8 oz. jigs tipped with 1/2 of crawler on a big stump filled flat. Catching a few walleye here and there. When I got bit hard, set the hook to a real heavy fish.....bull doggin' and head shakin'....told my partner "if this is a walleye we will win with just this fish".....real good fight, but no jumps, so I'm thinking 10 pounder....yell to the partner "get the net, it's ready to come up"...just as he gets the net ready and in the water.....a 42 inch muskie jumps, clears the net and land in the boat....my partner (a southern boy) had never seen a muskie and almost fell out of the boat when she jumped in.....no pics, just gave her a quick measurement and released.. We did draw quite a bit of bucktail traffic though, had to move to another point to avoid getting a treble in the face....lol Don't know whats so hard and elusive about a muskie....caught it on 6 pound test too... saugers2 (going back to the other site now)

Posts: 480 | We get a number of 28-30" walleyes trolling big cranksbaits on Mille lacs, the wave wackers don't move in on us though. Those bonus fish help keep the day moving with action.

Posts: 5874 | That's how I got started muskie fishing. Back in the mid 80's, I was on Pewaukee Lake, fishing for BASS, of all things. I had the eyes figured out, and was looking for something different to do. I was Carolina rigging in Taylor's Bay and hooked into a muskie about 35". Once I asked around, and found out there muskies stocked there, I started buying muskie rods, reels, line, baits, terminal tackle, magazines, dues, etc! Man, I spent a lot of money over the years!

trying to avoid the fever of another hobby or passion...my wife has it though, she had a 50+ follow up while fishing at my dads place on the St. Croix Flowage in Gordon... Now all I hear is "when are we going to go muskie fishing..." Could be worse I guess...lol

It's called fishing for a reason, you never know what you're going to catch!

I think someone was asking the other day in a thread about using small baits for musky. Then there's the thread going on right now about the use of big baits for muskie. The common denominator of musky fishing is: It's not so much the size of the bait, the color of the bait, the shape of the bait, the name of the bait, the sound of the bait, the type of bait.....really...all it takes is a wet bait. Sure...all those other factors could be used as triggers...but...all-in-all...all it takes is a wet bait. If it's in the water it's food. It doesn't always have to be moving either. Take a look at how many people have had a surface bait sitting on the water for a while as they pick out a backlash. Or someone gets a backlash while fishing a bucktail in the wind....as they're picking out that backlash..that bucktails in the water...barely fluttering along with the wind/current....WHAMMMO! :D Again....all it takes is a wet bait.... Posts: 723 | Not kidding on this one- my boss and I have each caught a catfish, big ones at that, his was caught in the mouth, mine funny as it was, was snagged in the pooper. but the clincher, was him catching a carp on a musky bait! hooked right in the mouth. If I had to put another accidental catch on here of his, it would be the boat battery he caught this last fall! hehehehehe he looks at me after he sets the hook, and says, dude, its moving! that one put up quite the fight, but tested 80lb stealth for us, picking dead battery weight up with the line wrapped around a dowel, everything held, even the hooks on his bait!

Posts: 699 Location: Hugo, MN | My first Muskie was on a #5 Shad Rap. I was fishing for Muskies and my buddy was hauling in Bass left and right so I quit and decided to try and just catch a fish and I did a nice 40"

Posts: 20219 Location: oswego, il | saugers2, keep at it, you will catch the next illinois state record. The past 2 have not been caught by muskyfisherman, I doubt the next one will be either.
