Posts: 750 Location: Minneapolis, MN | Currently I’m using a Cabela’s 7’6” Tourney Trails rod rated 2-6 oz. for my WTD style baits. I’m looking to replace the rod with something that would still work well for the Big Mama’s I use, and the 6” Phantom and 8” Hellhound that I try to use, but would also work for XL Squirkos. I understand I may not find one rod to do it since there is about an 8 oz. difference between , but if possible it would be preferable. I know I could use my XH Predator for this, and I may end up doing that for this fall, but I’m not really a fan of using long rods for WTD style baits. Any suggestion?

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Just an FYI but we have our Tackle Industries 7' XH and XXH rods on specials right now for $100 with a flat $5 shipping. They XH would be a good rod for these lures. Too bad the shows are still 3 months out...you could touch one and see how you like it...

Posts: 187 Location: West Metro, MN | I use a Shimano Compre 7'6" XH (2-6oz) for exactly what you are doing with the exception of the XL Squirko. I have tried longer rods for WTD lures, but I just seem to come back to 7'6" as the right length for me for gliders and WTD topwater. For the $$ the Shimano Compre is a nice rod in my opinion. I also have a 7' Compre H that I use in the spring for smaller gliders (1-2oz) that is great, but doesn't get much use once I start using slightly larger WTD style lures.

Posts: 231 | SC Legend "The Jerk" 7'6" 3-8oz. It will handle XL Squirko no problem. I've thrown Mag Treats and 10-12" Phantoms with it too. 12-13 oz baits are not an issue for this blank. Jmho.

Posts: 750 Location: Minneapolis, MN | Has anyone tried the 7'2" XH Mojo Musky? It has the same rating as the legend jerk but for half the cost.
