Well I was planning on Going up to the fox river, DePere on April 1st for the walleye run, but it's looking pretty slim on when ice is going to be out. I was wondering if any of you fellow Muskie anglers have any suggestions for a southern Muskie destination. I live in northern illinois, so I would like to keep it with in a 7 hour drive. I was thinking of kinkaid lake or Kentucky lake. Any thoughts? I have never fished these lakes so any tips will be appreciated. Thanks!

You'll be wasting your time trying to catch a musky out of Kentucky Lake.. If you meant Cave Run, there's a couple of threads on this forum..

The imtt will be having a tourney on Kinkaid the weekend before so that tells you it is a pretty good time to be on the lake. If you have never been on it it is a beautiful lake with a lot of good fishing. I would highly recommend it!!!!!!!!!!!

Well then kinkaid it is. Can anyone recommend a place to stay, or even what side of the lake to fish on? Have never been there, and to be honest I have never fished for Muskie in April. Anyone willing to share some tactics or even where the fish would generally be? Thanks everyone for your help!

If you go on YouTube type in "Kevin Wakeman" and watch his videos. He has a number of good videos on muskies all from Illinois including Kinkaid. I know he had a website dedicated to Illinois lakes. I think it was spinnerbait.org, but I'm sure a quick Google search will pull it up.

Most of the tourney guys stay a Americas best value inn in Murphysboro. It is nothing fancy but is usually clean, relatively cheap, and you can back your boat up to an electrical outlet right outside your door. He even provides chalks for your tires so you can leave the boat and run somewhere if you want. At that time of year most of the people will be in the five fingers area which is why I usually try to avoid it. Their are fish all over the lake, find a good map find some likely spots and have fun.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Would it be safe to say that if I chose to go last minute it would be hard to find a guide for a day or even a hotel room?

Good info from HoosierHunter above. There are also cabins on the lake that can be rented. They are not as inexpensive as Americas Best Value Inn hotel, but are more convenient.

Can't wait for the giant 'eye moshpit in Green Bay-----definitely NOT for the "faint of heart". It's full contact walleye fishing in that part of the world!
