I found a new 8ft heavy Musky Innovations Bull Dawg rod with a solid cork grip I can get for $80+ tax. Is this a good deal, good rod to add to the collection? I dont see them on the MI site anymore.

Sounds like a good deal. What series/model is it?

Poke around here for a comparison -
http://www.overstockbait.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=musky+inn...

Found the following in the 8' lengths, not sure about their shipping costs tho:
Regular $95
Magnum $110
Super Mag $135
Monster Mag $155

Hope this helps!

Great rod. My guess is if its new its a SELECT series rod. It's MI's lower end rod but still very well made. I have one in 8ft mh and i really like it. They're next step up is the evolution series and those usually retail $129.99 or so. I have three of those as well and have never had a problem with any of them.

That does help Thank you! Im not sure what series it is. I assume its the regular since its normal price was 99.99. With that said is it still a good rod or should I spend a bit more for something better? Looking for something a little heavier for throwing mag dogs and such over my St Croix MH Premier.

I paid $50 for my back up mi select rod and love it. 80 $ plus tax though I would probably get a pro series or a st.croix.
Just my opinion if your spending 80 $ might as well spend the extra and get a nicer rod. If funds for you are low and your
In need on saving some coin the select is a just fine rod.

I grabbed it for 80 out the door. It was 99.99 but I got 25% off. Its a select magnum 8ft heavy. I already have 3 St Croix rods but are all MH 7-7.6 rods. Now Im off to grab another toro for it.

Regular Toros are on sale for 199 so for under 300 I think its a good spare set up.

Ended up with a new Toro NaCl for 239.00 with a coupon. Putting the long cranking handle with this rod should be pretty good all around double 10s and dawgs except maybe pounders.

Nice & when it comes to pounders you could always just peel some line off on the deck fly-fishing style and throw um towards the reef.. Just don't git yer foot caught in one of the line coils!

I'm sure you will like it for tossing Mag Dawgs. I have an Evolution series and love it. Loads when casting really nice, and plenty of power on hooksets.
The blank (tTec Im8) is supposed to be the same on the 3 levels (Select, Evolution, Pro)- they skimp on guides/reel seat etc. to make a more affordable rod.
