Posts: 288 Location: Montreal, Que. Canada | Hey Guys, Looking for a crankbait that like the SI can be trolled up to 6 mph. and casted twitched as easily as one. Tried the Custom X Hybrid and Loved it only it's not a lure that your likely to be able to fish all day with. One more thing it can't have flat sides like a jake or a Big game. Thanks, David

You can keel weight the SI and troll it Fast. Haven't tried 6 but fine at 5. Bend a bucktail blank to a 90. Make a loop in each end. Weight on one end. Lure on the other. Attach line(leader) at the bend. edit: Make a loop at the bend!

Posts: 833 | Maybe try a squirrley Krave? The shallow invader is a fairly unique bait IMO, especially when casted. A big challenge I've found in trying to come up with a larger substitute for the SI is getting the same "kick" as well as having plastic that doe is rigid enough to translate the action of the lip to the soft tail. Another challenge is bouyancy. I too have tried the Custom X hybrids and while I like the action, the baits run very shallow when casted. I like my twitchy stuff to have a bit of hang time. From a casting only stand point, one substitute you can try is the Water Wolf 13" Gator Tube. It doesn't "twitch" like a more traditional minnow bait, it has more of a WTD action. Howver it is erratic and it can be used in the figure 8. (unlike most glide style baits) Not a perfect substitute, but it is the best thing I've found so far. (And the fish like it) Another substitute might be to take one of those soft plastic tail trebles and add it to a 10" Slammer. I've yet to find anything quite like the SI on the market. There are rumors that they are going to produce a 13" version, but when I asked Dennis Lappen about it at the MN Show he said they still weren't happy with where the prototypes were at.

You would think they were building a Space Shuttle. That things has "been in the works" for about 3 or 4 years.

The Shallow Invader trolls best at 3.5-4.5 MPH and is a kick arse twitch bait. Faster than 4.5 and its running high to blow out...

Posts: 833 | You could put your rod tip 1' or more in the water, that might help. Better have a beefy rod and strong rod holder though.

Posts: 1360 Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | What about a 6" or 8" squirly jake? Jakes have nice twictching ability, the smaller ones don't run too deep, and you can still trol them failry quickly...
