| I will be going to the Chip for the first time at the end of August this year and will be staying at Treelands. I am not asking anyone to predict the future here, but based on the many combined years/decades/ages of experience on this board, I was wondering what typical patterns/presentations should be. If anyone has any typical hot baits during this time of year, I am headed to the Chicagoland Outdoors show this weekend and am up for some big hook shopping. This is the first year in a long time that I am not going to Eagle, so I hope it is not going to be too much of withdrawl. | |||

| bcampr1 You have picked one of the best times to fish the Chippewa Flowage. The last week of August and the begining of September have always been "the" time to fish the Chip. Look for the weeds that are still healthy and green. For the most part, this time of year, the fish will all be weed oriented. It's tough fishing but don't overlook fishing the slop. It is tough but that means it doesn't get pounded either. You should be concentrating on bars that top out at 8' or less. The fishing hotspots map is a decent map of the Chip and I recommend getting one. Productive baits this time of year would include a black bucktail with a green blade. Magnum Boo-Tails are certainly a top producer. Topwaters at dusk or on any cloudy overcast day.(Tallywackers, Pacemakers, Globes and Creepers all work well there) Suicks, Bobbies and Reef Hawgs will round out a well equipped tacklebox for this time of year. Maybe Dave D can add some insight to fishing the Chip for you. Fred J | |||

| Hi bcampr1 When will you be a Treelands? I head up to the Flowage with my family each year in August and I am staying at the same resort. I am always on the lookout for a musky fishing partner. If you are at the resort the same week as me, let me know if you are interested in heading out. I am no guide, but I know my way to a number of spots. Pal | |||

| It is not finalized yet, but it will either be Aug 23-30 or Aug 30-Sept 6. I will be there with a group of about 6 guys and although they have tackle boxes that are equipped for ski fishing, they end up fishing for anything that bites. I would rather throw big hair/top water's and maybe get a bonus big pike, walleye or bass while keeping on the search for a musky. | |||

| I'll be at Treelands Aug 30th , through sept 6th. I will be hopefully guiding some novices to some ski's. Alot will depend on the water level. This time of year the water level can be drastically lowered. If this happens, fishing slows down and the patterns change drastically. I didnt make it up to the chip last sept, but I talked to Dave D at the chicago show and he stated last year the lake wasnt drawn down too far and the fishing was the best it's been in years. I also know some other groups that fish at treelands this week. There definately can be some knowledge obtained in the bar every night. | |||

| bcampr1, FredJ hit it exactly on the head. The last half of August and the first half of September is not only great for action, it's"big fish" time on the Chip. There is no great secret to musky fishing at that time. Fish the best looking green weeds, concentrate on 2 to 8 feet of water, throw surface baits and bucktails. I'll be speaking about this very subject at the Milwaukee Musky Expo. In fact, there will be a booth at the expo where you can pick up some Bootails!LOL Good Fishing, Dave Dorazio | |||

| Well, for just picking a time of year to go to "The Chip" out of a hat, it turned out to be not that bad. I have a box loaded with good size bucktails, but it is inevitible that there have to be some new ones to test that week. Is it summer yet? | |||

| I know this is not musky related, but how is the walleye fishing this time of year? What should our group look for as far as structure, presentation is concerned? Thanks for your help in advance. | |||

Posts: 49 | Hi bcampr1, I'll be up from Aug 30th through the 13th. Can't help with the walleye's as we pretty much only musky fish -- you can get a good filet or two at Treeland's restaurant tho Hard to go wrong with a black body/green blade bucktail (especially Bootails :-]). Tail baits like the TopRaider or Pacemaker are great. I like a creeper or Hawgwobbler as well. We'll be in the lakeside cabin right at the point in Treelands. Stop by and say hi. We can trade info.
