Anyone using this rod? I picked one up yesterday and it is super nice. It's very light and is 7'9" xh and rated 6 to20oz. I will be using it with a Shimano tranx pg for pulling mag dawgs. The combo isn't too heavy seeing the reel is a rock. I'm hoping my investment lasts many years of hassle free usage. As being a true hobbiest I believe in buying right the first time and hope this combo was a good one.

My other set ups are st. Croix premier 8' mh with 400d for small bucktails and other small baits. And another st. Croix 8' premier hv with a Tranx hg. These will be used by my dad, 15 year old son and myself. I fish with my dad almost every outing. And one setup will be his as a bday gift. Please disregard the amount spent on the items as money wasn't the factor in these purchases. Functionality, comfort, performance and durability were the main factors. Thanks for any responses in advanced.

I use the 8'3" exclusively and absolutely love it! Easily the best pounder rod I have ever used. The 7'9" I have used slightly but like that as well especially for mag dawgs.

I have the 8'3" teamed with a 400TE . Have also used the 7'9" which is also a good rod. both are great big rubber rods, allot of back bone and long butt for leverage while casting. Well worth the money. Also works well with big glide baits.

Does the 8'3" rod handle only the large pounder rubber? Or is it for other applications as well? Or is the longer one just personal preference? I may pick up the larger rod as well. I have up to 3 people fishing at one time sometimes 4 so I'm looking for one more rod. As long as it can handle the mag sized dawgs as well as the pounders it seems like the perfect addition to what I have already. Thanks for all the help.

I like the added length of the 8'3" rod not to mention the xtra fast tip and the 16-48oz rating for sure hook sets on big rubber even on 2 pounders. I use it for 10-12" Phantoms also. As for just handling big rubber these two rods were specially designed for just that and do it well .

How long is the rear grip of the 8'3" (from trigger to end)? And is it still only available at Rollie and Helen's?

They don't carry them anymore. I called this past week and they said they haven't carried it for a few years. MIchigan Musky Shop is where I got mine. And if I'm correct the 7'9" handles are the same length and its 18.5" from trigger to butt. They are closed today but plan on going there tomorrow. I'll check to see if they are different.

The rods are made by the same company who makes the Musky Innovations rods as well as many others, Reaction Strike. They sell the rods off there website http://reactionstrike.com/rods.html
Also if you are coming to the Milwaukee musky show I know both Musky Innovations and my booth, Spencer's Angling Adventures will be selling them if you would like to avoid the shipping cost.

I know I mention michigan musky shop in almost every post but they have that economy rod for $60. They just got them and the lijewski rods last week. These are the rods that are $100 to $120 at cabelas. I guess I'm just so happy to have a shop so close to my house.
