Subject: Diy Fluro leaders

Ok guys. I am looking into getting the stuff to make my own fluro leaders. What all do I need. I know i need the leader material and also the sleeves. Should i go with single or double barrel. Also got one from innovations and it had shrink tubing over the sleeve is this a good thing or bad thing. Also will a crimping tool be able to be used on single and double sleeves or do i need a diffrent for each. Also where would be a good place to order this stuff from. Any other advise is appreciated....E

Save yourself the headache and buy Stealth Leaders. You won't save money...a good crimper is $35 by itself...130lb fluro is expensive...and trying to figure out how to tie that #*^@ knot and get anywhere near as good as Stealth does...well you will waste about 10 yards of fluro just to even get close...i tried it last winter...just not worth it. You can buy 10 stealth leaders cheaper than you can get setup, that will last you for 2 or 3 years and save on blood pressure meds.

really the tie 4 loop uni knots around a snap lock #5 snap and a swivel its very easy and u can get 130# flourocarbon 25 yards for like 20-30 dollars on ebay ...

if you dont break off more than half a dozen times a yr then by all means just buy stealth but otherwise ur just fooling urself

wow headache and blood pressure just for leaders making?
what do you do when a 40 lbs+ is turning on the 8 near your boat?
you must be half dead ahhahahahaha

Although you don't save much from making your own I get more satisfaction out of making my own leaders. Dan Colomby of Nipeeing Muskies taught me how to make these and they have worked out well for me.

12" seagar #100 fluro for casting. #5 sampo ball bearing swivel and 200lbs stringrease snaps.

36" for trolling. All connections are made with a Crawford knot...... Mushroom the tag end with a lighter for good measure.

I personally like using 'Tactical Angler clips' when possible. They are a breeze when it comes to switching baits and I've never broken one. The only thing is the will not work with lures that have sunken in eye connections like some top water plugs.

Size 4 or 5 ball bearing swivels, flouro of your choice, and snaps. Those crimp sleeves are a waste of time and money. I can tie my own for half the price of buying them. All of my buddies use them too. After 4 years we have had 0 problems and 0 failures. I would definatly recomend tying your own. If you need help with the knot pm me and I will walk you through the steps I use.

I use an open loop knot that tarpon anglers use - so it should be tough enough.
I then coat them with the thickest super glue I can find.
Never had a failure.
You can/will save a ton of money so that you can waste it on must-have (but rarely thrown) muskie baits.

I tie up to 200lb fluoro with a perfection loop, pulled tight (wrapped over a pipe if needed and the open loop over a solid mounted smooth peg in my workbench) and then a drop of 3M super glue. Never had a failure!

double barrel crimps...no knot..been making 180lb leaders long before you could buy them in stores... zero failures by me or any of my friends using them...easily 1,000 fish or more on them
