Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Looking for wood or just blanks for fun? I will have 500 of my Sea Cows, Sea Calfs, Mag Shads, Dingos and Super Ciscos in a month. Just got them for fun so guys who want to do some custom painting can fill some winter time. If wood, try eBay too. Some blanks on there once in a while.

Thanks James Are these blanks clear or white? I was wondering why more plastic lure manufacturers don't use the clear plastic with foil insert and paint the inside like some Bombers. The exterior might get scratched up but the paint and foil insert would always stay the same.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Mine are semi clear. I have a picture on this forum. http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=54... I am looking into the clear with foil insert right now. You can get some real cool looks with it. My main problem is that I have about 30 lines of lures right now in 20-40 colors each and this is still just a hobby for me Fun but lots of work and adding more lure lines takes more time. I would not be able to do it in my current molds either so it would also require $$$ to make the new molds that can accept the holo inserts.

The fact that the lip isn't installed is actually great news. I was interested in attempting to alter the lip on the Super Ciscos and 11" Mag Shads to get a shallower running lure. I was hoping to get something that swam no deeper than 3' but could still handle the fast speeds and something else that stayed on the surface at a slower speed and at faster speeds went no deeper than 6" . It would be a lot cheaper getting one of the bodies and being able to install different lips than it would be to alter finished lures like I had planned since I would undoubtedly ruin quit a few plugs before I got it right.

I've ordered several clear blanks. I've always used Createx with my airbrush. Should I switch to an oil or enamel based paint. Anything special to prep teh plastic prior to painting?

Posts: 32 | I've done quite a few of James blanks. heres a sample of a couple we chromed and painted which willl be at the Chicago show next week. You can use any paint you like, you will need a nice primer to cover any scratches. like epoxy primer, or home depot sells a nice sealer/ primer in a spray can. make sure they are saned in all the nooks and crannies for best adhesion. Good luck they are excellent blanks, some of the nicest we've done. And we've done lots!!!
