| I think it really depends on your policy. If you have replacement insurance, I think you will get set up pretty well. Once you agree on what replacement is, they generally will reimburse you a depreciated value, then you go buy the item and then they will reimburse you the rest. If you don't have replacement insurance they might only pay for the actual depreciated value of the motor etc. | |||

| HH - please let me be the first to offer my sincere condolences! Bad enough to lose your job, but to take away your mobility to fish, that's inexcusable! I mean, they couldn't have taken the lawnmower and chainsaw, right? Check you policy, some companies offer two different kinds -one kind is a replacement policy which will pay to replace the item lost, the other will give you a depreciated value of the item. The first is, of course, more expensive. Also, any photos or records of maintenance/repair of the motor may help convince them that this was in top-notch shape (and deserving of top notch reimbursement) and not a dusty relic. Good luck and best wishes. m | |||

| HH, been in Canada I have no clue how insurance works in the USA. But with that said I can tell you a few things that can help. First off go out and get an estimate or two to see how much it would cost you to get your boat back the same way it was on Tuesday including instalation and repairs of the same equipment you lost. Now if you can't find a motor of the same year try to get the value of it in writing. Secondly I would go to the shop that does your maintenance or where you purchased it and get it in writing as to the condition of the stolen motor. This should probably be the same place you will be getting your estimate from but getting a professionals opinion in writing as to the condition of your motor may help you get top dollar for it. Don't let the insurance company get off by not giving you the replacement value. You may be surprised at the estimate you may be getting from the insurance company, over here there seems to be a different rate for insurance companies. [:p] After the ice storm I gave the insurance company an estimate for $900 for drywall and paint repairs du to cracks in my house, well they refused it and got there pro to come and give them an estimate of over $5000 LOL after all deductions I got over $3000 for doing the work myself. Tough luck on the motor dude, hope all gets taken care of fast so you can get back out there and catch a hog. | |||

| Anybody have an Idea what a 93 50hp merc tiller is worth,,the mech who tuned it said it was the sweetest motor he had heard for a while | |||

| Sorry to hear the report dude...get a copy of the police report for the insurance co. + I'd call a couple of marinas/boat dealerships + get estimates of what a motor in that good of a condition would cost; which should be no probs since it was garage kept, etc. Your agent can tell you if you have replacement + should send a rep. out to survey the situation....let us know how it goes! | |||

| Happy: Sorry to hear about your misfortune. However, I'm willing to offer you my advice (pro bono, of course), for what it's worth, as a lawyer dealing with insurance companies every freaking day. Plus I owe you after taking me out last summer! E-mail or call. Bill [email protected] (yes, seriously that's the address-believe me, I didn't pick it!!) or 612/333-9754 | |||

| Hooker, that sucks. I can't offer any advice but I wish you good luck. Here's to better days, Jono | |||

| Sorry to hear the bad news. Don't forget to add in for TAX. Do this after you have settled on a price. They will not offer tax unless you ask for it. Good luck. Tim | |||

| What are you complaining about? Your always fishing Harriet anyway. You should THANK the person who "liberated" your motor so you'd have less weight to drag around [;)] . Seriously, that SUCKS [:knockout:] . If you didn't have such bad news on the job front I'd say it was a sign to get a new boat. After dealing with many claims, don't let them screw you! You may have to fight for every penny you get, but keep pressure on them and you'll get taken care of. | |||

| www.nadaguides.com will give you 'blue book' values; you'll have to see if they go back that far for your outboard. m | |||
