Location: SW MI | Intermediate Lake. This is part of a chain of lakes, most of which have muskies. You could also try Elk and Skegemog. |

Location: Michigan | If your staying in Traverse City, Long lake would be closer than the others mentioned. If your going in the summer months, expect plenty of pleasure craft company.

and experience. With the exception of St. Clair and Detroit River pre VHS, Michigan muskie fishing sucks compared to every other state and Province I've fished, Uper included. I'm sure I'll catch flack for this so fire away but there isn't much you could tell as Michigan is my home. And please don't tell me about those great stocking programs on piddly little ponds like Murray, etc. If trolling around all season for a fish or two trips your trigger go for it. A state that passes out Master Angler awards for spearing lunge speaks for itself.

First of i'd like to say i do respect your opinion. Heck, if I had a choice of spending 15 weeks of muskie fishing in Michigan or 1 week in Ontario, I wouldn't think twice. But that's just me, the shield has been a special place for me for quite a long time.
As for Mighigan muskie fishing sucking...I have to disagree! and i'm not talking about St. Clair/Detroit River or the little ponds like Murray, Ovid and so on either.
In fact, hearing that from a fellow Michigander that lives in the area you live in is very suprising to say the least.
Michigan is not a Wisconsin or Minnesota and never will be. Salmon/trout get the front seat in the Great Lakes state. That said.. Will Schultz, the members of the Michigan Muskie Alliance and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources deserve a huge thanks for all their hard work and dedication to improving the muskellunge fisheries here in Michigan.
Like you I can think of many other places i'd rather fish for muskie than here in Michigan and have caught my share of muskies from WI to KY to Ontario including some nice ones, but I think my most memorable fish the fish i'm most proud of came from right here in Michigan, in a lake not far from you.
Anyhow, whatever "floats your boat". Have a great season Bert. Maybe i'll see you in October.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | J. - Thanks for the nice words. There is no comparison from ten years ago, there are so many more opportunities today. We have low density trophy water (apparently Bert doesn't like those around where he lives) and we have stocked water from 200 - 5000 acres. I wish more people would explore and take advantage of what we have here in Michigan because there is truly a silver lining in what was just a dark cloud ten years ago.
