Hey All,

I've been led to believe that Tony Rizzo's book "The Secret Method" mainly deals with sucker fishing. I was wondering if this is accurate?

Thanks,

TC

But no5 a good way to fish as he used single hook to fish the sucker with.

Right. I know that the methods are dated but what I really meant with my question was whether it was almost solely if not soley about sucker fishing vs. a number of tactics, etc.

Thanks

I have that book and real interesting to reading! Use boat to way out to drop suckers and back to shore to wait for musky to pick up sucker. Its good way to keep warm on shore in the late Fall but today method is much better to not kill musky like quick set rigs.

I basically grew up reading Tony's articles in Fishing Facts during the early 70's.
I was fortunate enough to coax my Dad away from our Pelican Lake rut and rented a boat at Tony's Silver Muskie Resort on Star Lake during the summer of 1978. We fished the most beautiful body water that I had ever been on and we were rewarded with my Dad's biggest muskie to date. Tony had his clients on Ballard or Irving that day, and we got a bigger fish than Mr. Rizzo did. At the time it seemed as though we pulled off the impossible, bettering the best!. My father and I were invited into their home at the end of the day, and saw all the glorious muskie mounts, he told us stories, marked a map of Star Lake, and signed a copy of his first true book "Secrets of a Muskie Guide" for me. I even tossed a football back and forth with his son (Tony Jr....who had little interest in the World of the Elusive Muskellunge). It was one of the most memorible summer days of my life. Tony is one of my "Heroes"! He brought the "magic" to the quest of the Vilas County trophy muskie in his writtings to the point, I may drive up/over from Minneapolis to toss a lure or soak a sucker in those pristine waters before the lakes freeze. Minnetonka is very close to my house and has produced numerous BIG fish recently, and the closest boat ramp on Mille Lacs is just a bit over 90 miles. I'm 46 years old, I grew up in Chicago, and unfortunately I still have the strong desire to relive my youth in Northern Wisconsin, and have my dream fish come in the net on one of those bodies of water, as goofy as it sounds(nice run on sentence)! Mr. Tony Rizzo was the first to write about suspended summer fish (that is how my Dad got his in 1978). Just apply Mr. Rizzo's tactics in his writttings to 2008 hooking procedures, and there should be a substanial Lax/Fittante bill in you future.

ClarkA....thanks for sharing an interesting story!

Anyone know what happened to Tony today? Still guide? I don't hear from him for awhile and last time that I know that he wrote an article for ESOX magazine a few years ago.
Tony is great guy and I met him several times in person at the Chicago fishing and outdoors show in the late 1980's. Bought several books with signed from him.

Just to let you know, I saw Mr. Rizzo today. He says that this Ocotber has been the best fishing that he has ever had, I quote "34 legals in 22 days and 7 were trophys."
He looks great, and is still fishing like a mad man.
I shall let him know that people are still interested in him.

Happy fishing all

I stayed at his place the last couple of years it was open, and wished I would have found his place a couple of years earlier since his rates were not high priced compared to alot of resorts in the vilas area. When we talked to tony he was very nice and helpful about lakes to fish, tony seemed like a great guy and ONE HELL OF A FISHERMAN.I need to buy his books to read, while we were staying at his resort I read a little of one of the books that was in the cabin and what little I read was very interesting.

Hey Guys,

One of the things that makes it tough with Tony is that he doesn't have a computer, believe it or not. He says that his grandkids are trying to get him to get one.

I tried to encourage him saying that I felt he would be so surprised at how much is out here on the web, in general, let alone the musky-related material.

For those who are lucky enough to see him and talk to him regularly, keep encouraging him to get online and maybe even re-work some of his classic writings with updated techniques and baiting tactics.

I did a bunch of reel work for Tony several years ago and he gave me a complete set of his books autographed by him. It is one of my "treasures" that I truly cherish.
