Location: Eau Claire, Wisconsin | a buddy of mine is going to bone lake in the first week of june. i was wondering if any one here could help on what to use, what colors, where to fish, or any thing that you think would help. he has never caught a musky and would be nice to get him on some fish size realy dosent matter for him he woiuld just like to catch one. i filled him in on how handle the fish and what he needs for release tools and etc... i have never fished bone lake before so i wasnt to much help on lures, colors, and some spots to fish etc... again any info your willing to give up would be great. thanks

Location: WI | There are many lure styles that work well on Bone. Have him find healthy weeds, warmer water, and keep chuckin' his favorite lures. The north end has a large bay that holds lots of fish in the early spring, so find some stuff near that area....there really isn't too much area on that lake that isn't good. Fish may go on bucktails, maybe on big plastics, maybe on reg. jerkbaits, maybe on glidebaits, or even topwater.....sorry, that doesn't help him much! Don't forget night fishing may be a great option at that time. Glad to hear you gave him the 'important' information....proper release techniques!! Good job man. |

Location: Hudson, WI | I'd say Grant is right on the money, there are very few spots that don't look good on Bone. I'd tell him to hit the north end as well and start out throwing bucktails right off the bat. Don't back off of the bucktails for a while unless he's seeing no fish at all for a long time, then slow down with a jerk/glider. I've found bucktails to really perform well on that lake, so give them the real college try before pulling something else out of the bag. You may want to have him book up Ed Beese or Mike Hoen if he really wants to pop a couple. Really reasonable rates and they would put him on his first fish. Tell him not to bring his boat either way, he can probably just walk across the lake without touching water. That lake is PACKED on the opener and Deer is even worse. |

Grant, and Adam offered some excellent advice. Tell your buddy to get a Mepps baby marabou yellow skirt silver blade, a firetiger babyshallow raider for bright skies. Perch pattern baby shallow raider black bucktail of sorts for darker days. Like Grant said look for new growth weeds. The hooking % on those two lures are good so that should help him. Twitching the raiders in the shallow new weeds has accounted for LOTS of fish early in the season. I will p.m. you with my # and could probably meet your buddy @ Gens bait or a boat landing and mark up his map for him to help him break his cheery.

Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | I would consider Bone Lake to be one of my "go to " lakes. Try a #5 mepps black with a black blade. Find the nicest weeds and fish close to any turns in the weed edge you can find. Try a Jig and Pig on the inside weed line down the entire East bank. That,s what I will be doin. |

I have a grad party to go to in Cumberland so I will be hitting Big Moon (all 190 acres of it) in the morning for a couple hours on the way up. Hopefully tie into one of those hog 34" that lake is so famous for! |

| I used to fish Bone Lake an awful lot, as I grew up in that neck of the woods, and I still get up there annually. Early June you'll do well with the tactics mentioned above. Basically the entire shoreline of the lake is fishable. Definitely concentrate on the north end. Also work the two mid-lake islands, paying special attention to the weedbed on the east side of the north island.
Another great tactic that is untapped is trolling the open water adjacent to the north bay, or adjacent to any of the major weed flats. Look for pods of suspended baitfish, and use shallow-running cranks such as a 9" Big Game, shallow invader, or Rapala Super Shad. That tactic has put fish in the boat on days where the shallower weed fish weren't moving, or were lethargic followers.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I used to fish Bone quite a bit, and the advice above nails it down pretty well. Jig on that lake shine anytime. My Dad did pretty well trolling the 10' sand flats with spoon plugs, too.
I really enjoyed that water because of the stellar largemouth bass fishing. I caught bass regularly on cranks, topwater, and jigs while fishing muskies. |

Location: WI | Molt - I don't think I'll be on Bone for the opener...but somewhere nearbye I'm guessing. I haven't fished Big Moon for a couple years...my Dad's family used to own the little resort/bar/grill on the East side by the landing back in the 50's & 60's...it used to be loaded with TROUT back then!! Location: Hudson, WI | I have pounded many a beer at Moon Lake Tavern after fishing, Grant. Bet you had some good times. Really a nice little lake. I can see why they stocked trout in there, it gets about 45 feet deep throughout the entire middle of the lake. Not really a bad musky lake in reality, just not of the likes of some of the good ones in the area, like Bone, Deer, Cedar, Wap, ARF, etc.
