| Im looking to buy a new rod for throwing small-medium bucktails for bigger pike and musky, does anyone have any rod recomendations that would fit this application? I want someting about 7' and preferably a llittler tip so I can achieve l...o...n....g casts.

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | If you want LONG casts, get a LONG rod. A 7 footer isn't your best bet. I would go 8'6. |

| fish hunter2, Instead of going as long as 8'+, especially since you are looking for a rod to use specifically for smaller bucktails, I would go for something more like a 7'6" or 7'9". You will get decent casting distance and it wont feel like you're throwing a micro dawg like it would with a much longer, heavier rod. 8'6"'s are great like Mike stated, but best if youre going to be using much larger baits like double 10's, mag dawgs, and kickin minnows since most only come in xheavy and up. But if you feel comfortable using it, go for it! The Shimano Compre's are great and pretty light. Most places carry them so you can go in and check them out yourself instead of buying blindly online based off of other peoples opinions instead of your own. But, I would listen and take into consideration what other people tell you about all the different rods on the market, opinions, experience, and the customer service other rod companies have. | I use LONG rods for small to medium bucktails for "big pike and muskies" ...9' Diamondback Pro edge rod.
plus with a rod like this you can also use it for bigger stuff and not have such a one purpose rod...the diamondbacks keith builds have a soft enough tip for small stuff but with the backbone to handle the big stuff....

| In that range you first asked about, 7`2" St.Croix MH Preimer will do all you want and then some, (139.99) or FIGRIG 7` 3" toothtamer @ like 159.99 both super rods that I have caught a ton of fish-on. If you were looking for a certain size just go with that. Alot of younger guys are pushing all these long rods and they do have downfalls as do the shorter counterparts. Fish with what fits you and your type angling. |

| For my lighter stuff, I'm using a MH(built out to 9'). I can launch a Lilly Tail a mile and the rod doesn't load when using speed in the 8. Another nice option in a rod that is much more versatile would be the 8' St. Croix Legend Tournament Mega Swimbait in the Bass series . Built to 9', and it's a wand. Keep the entertainment coming!!!! My 2pennies. |

| I have an 8'6" M Diamondback that Keith built and it is my bucktail rod. Do your self a favor and get one. I really like the oversize cork too. I agree with Steve on the Mega Swimbait rod for heavier baits. Expensive,yes, and worth every penny in my opinion. BTW, Keith built that one too. This is not a conspiracy, Keith does great work. |
