hey guys ... many of you may already have heard about this but i wanted to refer you to this link http://www.waow.com/News/index.php?ID=19501 which describes the fire that destroyed Spangs in Minocqua, Wisconsin early on friday morning and took the life of a young 2-year old boy who lived with his two siblings and mother in an apartment adjoining the Spangs business. the entire building was destroyed.

i don't have a lot of details yet, but this one hits close to home for our community and especially here at my house. the folks that own Spangs are neighbors and close friends. it's a terrible tragedy for a mother who lost a young child and in addition it destroyed a business owned and operated by a good family and some nice folks during a time of year when everything is supposed to be upbeat.

it's turned a lot of lives upside down as you can imagine and brought a lot of sorrow to the community and i thought i'd put this out there for those of you who know of the area, maybe even the place and perhaps some of the people and ask for you to take a moment to look up and think about them in your own way during a tough time and also keep your eyes open for the story and the opportunity to contribute to those who will certainly need a helping hand in the coming months ...

some of you may have heard me talk about him before but kevin "the scrawney little neighbor kid" who represents tipups number 16,17 and 18 in our ice-fishing team is the son of the owners of Spangs ... he's an extra in my family ... we're really saddened here about this hitting so close and especially this time of year.

thanks for reading guys ...

Things like this make you wonder what God's plan really is. I'm very sorry for the families and friends of everybody involved.

WOW, that is horrible. We have a place in Minocqua. Sue lived there for years, and was shocked to hear about the fire this morning.

A short up date on donations for the family.

M & I Bank in Minocqua as well as a few other banks in in town have set up an account for the family or you may send/drop off funds at the Thirsty Whale. They are also taking in gifts for the kids at the Whale. They have been given housing until spring time at which time they will need to find some place else to live. Some community members are looking into getting a Habitat for Humanity project going for the young mother.

If you feel that you would like to donate things that can be used they have nothing. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo socks--all the things that we don't think about on a daily basis are items that they can use. The kids are 5 and 3 years old and the mother is approximately 25-27 and about a size 7-8. Winter coats and boots with this storm that is rolling through this weekend would be good as well.

Anything that you can think of would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks for putting this on here jonnysled. This tragedy hits home for many community members and for me, my heart aches for the owners of Spang's and more so for the young mother.

Are the kids boys and/or girls?

My families thoughts and prayers will be with them.

Can't tell you how many times we ate there late after a day on the water.

That's horrible, given the timing of the holiday and all that... Even worse for the family and the young ones.

I loved ordering out from that place.
