Hello, Going on a Fall Trolling run next weekend up to Northern MN. Never been a big troller and my old boat came with rod holders mounted. Looking to get some clamp on rod holders for the trip and future trolling runs but don't want to mount them on my boat and would also like to be able to bring them on any future vacations where I won't be bringing my boat. Any help would be appreciated.

Downeasters make a clamp on rod holder. I recommend the double Clamp model.

Virtually unbreakable and fast rod removal. The only drawback is that they tend to eat the cork when pulling big baits. But love them anyway.

Another vote for Down east, I switched to them this year and I'm never going back.

also for the handles getting chewed up you can just wrop the sections that get pinned on the handle with the tape that is used to tape bandages on you body the white tape.. that works verry good and it comes off without taking cork off.....bill

Bill,

Try switching the settings on the downeasters.....move the actual rod holder to the outside position. This will prevent the foregrip of your rods from getting chewed up.

I run the down easter salty two screw version as well and find they work great. As for cork damage there is a tape on the market known as extreme tape, which is a non adhesive self bonding ruber tape that bonds to itself when wraped over it self. This stuff works awsome to prevent rod damage and does not leave any sticky adhesive films on your rods when removed,as it does not have any.I have found this product in automotive parts stores marketed under the name extreme tape but i think its on the market from other companies under other names as well. This is very usefull stuff that ive found a lot of great uses for!

Don't use your good cork handled rods for trolling. Buy rods with the foam grips, rods made for trolling.
