| I, like many others, have started making my own DC-type flashabou bucktails, I have been using the holographic flashabou (seems a bit stiffer than regular flashabou) and am tying them similiarly to the DC's. The problem that I am having is that after about 15-20 minutes of use, the material gets really really limp and doesnt flare out that much from the double #10 blades, even though they work great the first 10 casts. It doesnt seem like a tangling problem with the thinner material, it almost seems that the material starts to spin over itself and sometimes causing the bucktails to start and wobble.
Anyone else experience this issue? Thanks |

| Yes, its actually between the two sections of flashabou (underneath the first section. Ive taken the middle hook off during testing out the bait after having the problems and the hook actually helped keep the material pushed out, it was worse without the middle hook. |

Location: Madison, WI | Did you shrink wrap the back hook? I've noticed on most double 10's that don't shrink wrap, the flashaboo is constantly getting tangled.

| Sounds like maybe your clevises don't have enough wiggle room. If they're pushed against each other or against the beads then they may not be able to spin around the shaft freely and your whole bait will spin as the blades rotate.
It would be helpful if you registered and posted pics of your baits. |

| Thanks for the info. I do agree that I think the whole bait is rolling. I was using a #6 clevis on .051 wire and recently went to some larger clevises with bigger openings, this seemed to alleviate the issue, for a while.....then the bait went back to rolling again after a few casts. I could see how the pressure from the two blades would cause friction against the beads but how the heck to you change that? I would think at some point, you would have to have the clevises against a bead.
Could it be an issue of not enough material? I use an entire package of material for each bait.
I'll try and get some pics of them up. Thanks for all the help. |

| Actually one aspect of the bait that I failed to mention was that there is a split ring located in the middle of the bait with an additional treble hook hanging off the split ring. Could that treble hook be causing the bait to roll, thus making the #10's not spin properly. |

| Well, after alot of field testing the culprit was finally found. What was happening was that attaching a hook to a central spilt ring was causing the lure to not be as centered. I ended up attaching another hook with a couple of split rings, ala, similiar to the cowgirl, thus if the hook wants to spin or shift, it can do so on the shaft of the bucktail without "pulling" the bait to one side. or the other Just an FYI for everyone who tried helping.
Id like to get some pics on the site and plan to do so shortly. |
