Subject: weagle repaint person or persons question

Hello, I have a weagle that needs new paint. It was one of the ones that did not have the clear coat, the experiment with the other method. Anyhow Steve had mentioned that some repaints don't work as well and impede the baits action. I was curuious if anyone had recommendations as to who to send it to to get a repaint and lose the action...Thanks,Ben

I think I have the same bait your referring to. It's in with Beav also. Sounds like he's repaired a few of them.

another recommendation for Beav.
he's done a couple for me that all worked great, and is working on a Wabull of mine right now.

my opinion is that whole thing about paintjobs screwing up the actions is a questionable claim, seeing how the inventor himself has used a couple different painting versions.
Beav sands them down before painting them, so the weight is the same as if done brand new.

Beaver is the man, I have some great baits done by him.

MRG is also a great guy and painter.

You can't go wrong with either of them.

Will Beaver be at the Milwaukee show? I believe he lives in that neck of the woods. I was planning on attending Friday evening. I have a weagle I would like to get painted and refinished as well.

I have redone several of them. Be warned that the Weagle is not weighted and already sits very low in the water. When you add clearcoat, some will sit at the same level and some will sink a bit lower...is this something you want? It's hard to say where the lure will end up until the clear-coat is on....something to think about.

i have done this plenty of times on most of the weagles that i own..
the paint that steve used u can get at lowes or walmart. its a appliance epoxy paint. take the bait and strip off the old paint and then let it totally dry out. then repaint it and after that u can use the spray clearcoat over them a light coat is all you need.and it does not make the bait act different. u can always just leave it clear wood and just clearcoat that and it looks cool and works great too and looks cool. heck the fish dont seem to really care about the color of these baits anyway . the swoosh does the job.....bill

most of mine have about 50% of the paint on them and it's not a big deal.

The ones that I have repainted I justed used a $.99 can of spray paint from my local Family Dollar.

If I were you, I wouldn't be adding to much clear coat.

get it painted like the rest I have...I seem to notice a difference in action...

you might try weighing your various Weagles for comparison purposes.
i've found that from lure to lure the Weagles can be surpisingly variable.
there's a definite correlation between how light/heavy it is and the ease of producing a certain action.
i believe this is more from variation in blank density, not the paintjob. ("heavy" blanks become Wabulls!)
it's my understanding that some of the slight changes by Muskie Mojo have addressed this issue.

i like my unclearcoated one..lots of marks, gives it character....after i seen what Cady did to a weagle blank at the pittsburgh show, i'd be hard pressed to think a few muskies could give any of them character like the unclear ones...not a bad thing either. very durable, i just like all the nicks and marks.
